I am so thankful for Jim's friendship and for the privilege of working with him for almost my entire captioning career, both at the National Captioning Institute and the U.S. Senate. He was an exceptional person and will be missed by many, many people. Mary Ann and family, I am so sorry for your loss and pray that you find comfort in knowing that Jim touched many lives but you were the center of his world. Love, Sandy

To Mary Ann and family
So sad to hear of Jim's passing. We have been reminiscing about the years of working together at the Plaza Inn, being in each others weddings, visiting in Virginia and so many other memories. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to you and to Jim's brothers and their families as well. We will cherish his memory always.

Jim was the Plaza Inn (Disneyland) interpreter for all new Cast Members. The first thing Aiko (the boss) would say to a new Cast Member was "you don't understand me, you ask Jim". So whenever we didn't understand, we would go to him. He would graciously help us comprehend what we were supposed to do. He was very considerate of our schedules and made sure that we received as many as hours as we could handle or wanted and worked with us when we had other jobs and school schedules to compete with our Disneyland time.
It was many years ago, but I will not forget how great Jim was to all of us new Cast Members. Seeing him recently at a get together organized by Bruce and Jill Nelson, it brought back great memories of working with such a wonderful person.
I know Mary will miss him, as we all will.

I often joined Jim on the loading dock for his cigarette breaks because I wanted to spend as much time with him as possible while at work. That’s where we were when he told me he was leaving NCI to go work on Capitol Hill. The words that flew out of my mouth surprised us both: “I can’t work here without YOU being here.” But Jim always seemed to know exactly what to say and never missed a beat. “Go work with Steve,” he said. And so I did. With this fond memory, I send heartfelt sympathy to Jim’s loving family and many friends.

I was privileged to work with Jim for 17 years and lucky to have him as a friend when we were no longer co-workers. He was adored by all the captioners he trained and worked with. Countless captioners have Jim to thank for turning them into the great captioners they are today. His humor and common-sense approach to life will be missed. Mary Ann, Molly, Trevor, and Sallie, my heart and prayers go out to you. Love, Darlene

Jim was my boss and then coworker at the Plaza Inn. He managed to keep his head above the craziness surrounding g him, but at the same time being a part of it. He always had a quick retort or comment on the pranks and pratfalls surrounding him. He WAS the best. Since I was Mr. Brightboy 1976 I would know! LOL. He taught me many things mostly by example. Thank you for your spirit and leadership Jim.
