Obituary of James Dixon Hall

Friends, family, captioners and silly hat lovers, in loving memory we are obliged to say:

It was a banner life for Jim Hall!

After 69 years and a good long fight with cancer, Jim passed on Tuesday, January 28^th, 2020 in a home filled with so much love and wonderful memories.

We of course made sure to call Cousin Herkimer as we notified the family. Days later, we received a box of prunes in the mail with a note that read “keep up the good work.”

Jim was fortunate to marry his true sole mate. We have no idea how he landed Mary Ann, but they were the epitome of happiness – even after 46 years of laundry jokes and puns that didn’t always land.

Of course, his love of dry humor was matched only by his brothers, Dave and Jon, who just so happened to share his famous disdain for fruitcake.

He was a beloved father to Molly, Trevor and Sallie and taught them to experience everything they could and to never stop learning (and of course when to use ‘I’ vs “me”).

Jim also considered himself the luckiest man alive to have The Six Perfect Grandchildren, as he so lovingly called them. Delaney, Hadley, Madden, Pepper, Gunnar and Oliver love and adore Gramps with all their hearts.

What we all know for sure is that Jim left a very special mark on this world. His community, from Disneyland to NCI; from Congress to the Senate to Tamani Drive have spent years reminiscing of the love, compassion, knowledge and patience he showed each of them.

One of Aunt Millie and Uncle Vern’s fondest memories of Jim was when they asked him why cemeteries always have gates around them. Without missing a beat, Jim wittingly responded with, “because people are dying to get in.”

Jim lived a full, happy life and would want to leave us with this:
