Melinda & Billy -. So sorry to hear about the passing of your dad. (But how wonderful to have him for 98 years!). Your Dad and Mom were the "Heart and Soul" of Dranesville. They were great neighbors and just plain wonderful people. GOD bless you both! Rebecca Crouch

My husband, Chris, saw the obituary in one of the local papers just a couple of days ago. We were members of Dranesville United Methodist, and we have such fond memories of both Kay and Wallace. We loved to hear Wallace tell a story because he had so many interesting and fun experiences. He always made us chuckle with the cute grin he'd get when he was getting to the good part of the story! What a lovely couple they were, and we were blessed to know them both!

Thank you so much Chris and Anne for sharing about my mom and dad. There were wonderful parents. I took good care of Dad and was with him almost 24-7 knowing his end was near. He peacefully passed after I told him to go with mom and that is was okay. He was in peace. Thanks again,
Melinda Russell

Melinda, I'm so sorry to you for the passing of your father. I know how close you were because of the many postings you made. It's good to read all of these memories of these good people here about your father. Your dad must have been a wonderful man. May God bless and keep you in your time of bereavement.
Melinda Farrar Russell Posted Feb 23, 2020 at 7:05 PM
Thanks, So nice of you to comment. My father was a very special man. I cherished every day that I had with my Dad for the last three years. I had him up here in Winchester with me. I was very lucky to have him at first in my home and then so close to me. I had never lived so close to my folks since college days.

You could always find Wally standing in the narthex of Dranesville UMC on Sunday mornings greeting everyone attending the service. With a smile on his face and a kiss on the cheek for every lady he would usher them into our sanctuary. To me, he would give an update on his burning feet!! "Don't know what to make of it." But he was always there Sun day after Sunday.
He would often stop on his way home from visiting Melinda and give us the "news". And he would say "I still miss her" several times during the visit. One time the front door was open and he came in unannounced saying "Anybody home" and we knew we were in for a delightful visit with Wally.
Wally, I noticed you chose to pass out of our lives two days before Valentines Day. Remarkable!! After all, we all knew you "still missed her". May you both be ecstatic as you take your place in eternity!

Mr Farrar you will be dearly missed by many.
I will never forget the good conversations we had about gardening and history in general.
It is hard to believe it was 30 years ago we met while working on Bills equipment
God bless you and I will see you again one day in heaven

Bill,
Parents are precious and you had two loving parents who were very proud of you! I know that words cannot soften the blow of losing your Dad, but know that it was so obvious how much you were loved when the two of you were together and that you went above and beyond with your care of him.
My prayers are with you,
Tina

Since I am 78 years old, I have many wonderful memories of Uncle Wallace and his family and our many family gatherings. I remember when Uncle Wallace and Aunt Kathryn had their Engagement Party. What a beautiful couple. My Sister Marlene sang "Because" at their wedding. I remember Uncle Wallace was a kind, gentle, helping, friendly person and always worked with Aunt Kathryn on their many Volunteer works together. When we went to Church on Sunday mornings, there was Uncle Wallace and Aunt Kathryn Greeting and handing out bulletins with a smile. They had two children, Malinda and Billy and I remember going to visit Aunt Kathryn with my parents when they were born. Over the years, Uncle Wallace was right in there helping Aunt Kathryn with many gatherings. Especially, Family Reunions, School Reunions, Church Reunions, Church Conferences, Family events and yes Family and Church funerals. They always visted the sick or paid their Respects when someone passed. Their most important life event was to help their children become the nice people they are and to help them in whatever way they wanted to succeed. Malinda went to college to learn music and she became a very excellent music teacher. Billy wanted to be an Entrepreneur and he had hiis own business for many years. I moved to Florida and married my husband Bill.
When Uncle Wallace and Aunt Katherine came to Florida, they always came to visit us and they always invited us over to visit their Winter home in Florida. Once they organized a Virginia reunion and we were invited. They asked my husband Bill to sing in their Church service. He was a little nervous but he sang "It Took a Miracle".When we went to Virginia, we always stopped to visit Uncle Wallace. After Aunt Katheryn passed, we used to call Uncle Wallace and have long conversations about his army days overseas and we used to love to look at all their family photographs.Uncle Wallace loved to talk to Bill about his Army days because Bill was in the Army and Navy and they both had lots of stories to tell. When Uncle Wallace moved to Spring Arbor, we didn't call him as much because we didn't really know his schedule. Sometimes I sent him cards. He was a strong person to have lived to be almost 99 years old. Of course, Malinda lived very near him and she would go play the Piano for him. Billy told me that he would visit his Dad on Sundays after Church. I will miss hearing all about his stay at Spring Arbor from Malinda but most of all, I will miss Uncle Wallace. One thing I always noticed about Uncle Wallace is that he always dressed very nice as if he was going out sometimes. Even though he loved his Garden, I living away from home, never saw him wear a pair of jeans. What a Gentleman and always a Great Host. Rest in Peace, Uncle Wallace. We love you! Going to miss you Wallace! Loved the countless hugs you gave me over the years. I have missed sitting next to you at church. I know you have missed your sweet Valentine, but not this year! You both will be in God’s presence and what a reunion that will be! Until we meet again my sweet Wallace.

Uncle Wallace was always happy and funny- he would share a hug and smile with ease. How many times did he set up tables for 100 in the back yard for a family reunion, or down in the basement for Christmas dinner? He was behind the scenes making things happen for Aunt Kay and the family. I admired his VDOT commitment and chuckled as he monitored route 7 traffic out the window after retirement. His generation is missed, love Jenny

We are so sad to hear about Wallace’s passing. He can now be with Kay. I will always remember his favorite story to tell about the time I upgraded my charge for a kiss! Cost him $1.00!!
