Dorothy H. Guertin

Herndon, Virginia – Dorothy Hummel Guertin, affectionately known by all as “Dotty”, was a devoted wife, loving mother, adoring grandmother, and genuine friend to many.  She passed on April 22, 2020 at Reston Hospital Center.  She was 69 years old and the wife of Maurice “Moe” Guertin.

Dotty was born in Tower City, Pennsylvania, the youngest of three daughters to her parents, John and Ethel Hummel.  Her family moved to Arlington, Virginia and she graduated from Wakefield High School in 1968.

Dotty met her husband, Moe Guertin, in 1973, and they were married in 1978.  Their adventure continued with the birth of their daughter, Alisha (Timothy Warner), in 1982.  Dotty ensured her family was taken care of every day and always put their needs above her own. They maintained a lovely family home in Herndon, Virginia for 40 years. 

Dotty was a loyal employee working in sales at AT&T for 30 years when she retired in 1999, where she was known as the “smock lady” and fostered numerous friendships. 

Dotty was an avid lover of competitive figure skating, crossword puzzles, cooking, reading (especially John Grisham novels) and creative arts and crafts.  She loved to laugh and help others.  With her passing, many hearts are heavy.  She will be greatly missed. 

Dotty was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ethel Hummel, and her sister, Betty Hallman (Richard).  She is survived by her husband, Moe Guertin, sister, Marie Kelley (Brian), daughter, Alisha Warner (Timothy), and grandchildren, Sheppard and Elliott Warner.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Dotty’s name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
