Obituary of Hugh Gerhart Bruckschen

Hugh Gerhart Bruckschen, 88, of Sterling, Virginia, passed away on May 17, 2020.  He was born on February 6, 1932, to Frank and Bessie Bruckschen (both deceased).  He was also preceded in death by his wife Roberta Bruckschen and his daughter Debbie Bruckschen.  He is survived by his children Rick (Susie), Pam, and Keith (Marcie), grandchildren Drew, Chelsea, Zachary, and Logan, and great grandchildren Samantha, Liam, and Everette.

This is the way we will remember him:  he was a ‘giver’.  He was always there when needed. Not only for us but for the civic organizations he belonged to.  He was always doing something:  coaching soccer, helping mom with LINK pick-ups and deliveries, flipping burgers on the Ruritan trailer, working Ruritan Bingo, working USO Honor Flights, the list goes on.  Our home was always open and he and Mom always made everyone feel welcomed and wanted.  He made an impression on everyone he met.

We loved his drive and his need to always be on the go go go!  Always looking for something to do – always up to go fishing -- and never wanting to sit still.  He was definitely one of a kind and he will be missed.

Honorable, worthy of respect, reputable, uncommon, remarkable, exceptional, gracious, compassionate, courteous, kind, polite, graceful, heroic, bold, brave, courageous, noble, majestic, grand … he was all of these and more.

Hugh was a giver so in lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Hugh’s memory to the charity of your choice or to any of the following organizations that Hugh supported:
