It is a lot colder this Christmas Season and I still can't believe that my Nona (Grandma) has passed away since June.
I feel completely sad. I am a crying wreck because I am missing her alot.

Dear MOM,
As I sit here today on my 53rd birthday and looking at old birthday pictures. The tears are streaming down my cheeks, thinking of you. Today I am not going to get a call and hear you say “Charoumena Genethlia” (Happy Birthday) and do you want something? I hear your voice in my head saying it. You have given me best the gift of all… LIFE. How can you top that? As your days were numbered on Earth I tried to take your pain away as you did for me when I was little. It feels like I failed and I am sorry. You fought until your last breath to beat cancer and you left of on your terms, but I know now you are in a better place with God. You left us with a weathered exterior but you always had a heart of gold. I flashback in my head all years we shared together the good and bad. Like the school plays, Greek School, playing catch in the backyard or shooting the basketball while Dad worked, graduating from DeMatha, the missed curfews and bad report cards especially the one that I forged with your signature in fourth grade at St. Mary’s, you took the time meeting my friends, coworkers, bosses through the years and even my girlfriends and the special one that became my wife. I am going to miss your Greek wisdom of parenting “Ta matia sou dekatessera (Your eyes fourteen) or “Tha fas xilo! (You’ll eat wood) and countless others, and ironically I say to my children today. I enjoyed watching you teaching the boys Greek limericks when they were young. I especially enjoyed seeing the gleam in your eyes through years that you had watching Costa and Panos grow up to become young men from babies. They say “Nona, We Love you and thank you for everything”. They told me that to tell that they are “Just keep swimming”. You always let me vent when I was mad or sad and hear countless stories about anything and everything. Thank you for letting me fail and learn from my mistakes without judgment. You were a woman with few words but you illustrated it through action. Thank you for teaching about life, love, sacrifice, to work hard, how to be understanding, giving, courageous, pride, patience (that one is still a work in progress), and the list keeps growing and most important of all, my faith in God. I am trying to be strong for Vickie, Costa and Panos and it is very hard. Sometimes I cry, laugh and even get angry. Yiayia and Papou are also hanging in here.
In closing recently the last dream you had, Dad was wearing a white suit, waiting for you. Dad and you can relax and enjoy being together. I take comfort that you are enjoying your Greek coffee in each other’s company again.
I want to ask you a simple task just watch over us. I know you are already doing that without me asking because what happened this past Wednesday afternoon. I hopefully I made you proud because …

My sincere condolences to you Andreas. My father passed away in March, and I do know the pain you are going through. Some moments are so difficult. We also had nice memories of your mother at your celebrations at your home. May her memory be eternal. - Mel and Mike Karagiannis
