Amy DeCantis posted a condolence

From Amy DeCantis: I was so saddened to learn of Shyam’s passing. I met Shyam through my mother who was his and Ashok’s administrative assistant with NCSBCS/IBTS for years. Shyam’s passion for IBTS was infectious. I saw it in my mother when I was young (I’d often call her at 5 p.m. or so, at the end of her workday, asking her when she’d be home; she’d tell me she was just about leaving; I’d call her 20 or 30 minutes later; and she’d tell me the same thing). I remember her working on a project at home, I believe it was IBTS’ WinLabels; she wanted to get it just right. Through Shyam’s guidance and encouragement, I became a proposal manager about 10 years ago. Shyam believed in people and always encouraged them to do more and stretch themselves. He is the hardest working person I’ve ever known.
I feel fortunate to have known Shyam and to have witnessed his drive and determination firsthand and to have the opportunity to learn all that I did through his emphasis on lifelong learning. He encouraged me to pursue the Project Management Professional credential, which I earned a few years ago. Thank you, Shyam.
My thoughts and prayers are with Sushma, Neil, Ana, Ashok, and Shyam’s entire family.

Thank you so much for sharing these vibrant words. I have been at a loss for words and a bit overwhelmed with emotion the past few days.
There are many things that I remember fondly of Shyam Uncle.
He deeply cared for his interpersonal relationships. He was very curious and delighted to hear the changes that were ongoing in our lives.
He was supportive. He'd willingly share his perspective and he consistently distilled that wisdom he had gained over the years to those of us that were younger in the family.
He was passionate about tennis. He loved talking about tennis. I miss talking about tennis with him.
He was great to his kids and grandkids. As evident by the way Sushma masi, Veera and Gunnu didi, and Neil speak about him. He was a wonderful father and grandfather, and a caring husband. Furthermore, he was incredibly caring when it came to taking care of his parents, especially so in their older age. He was pillar of the family that we looked towards to steady the ship in rough waters. He knew how to traverse hardships.
He wanted to help others. I cherish the conversations I had about starting a business with uncle. Our conversations then grew from business to charity as we both had started nonprofit's. They were about our joy in helping others and plans of how to do it.
The memories I am currently reflecting on are some calls I had with uncle over the past year, working with him to create a website, a logo, and how to continue our work to positively impact more underprivileged youth.
As I move forward, I resolve to take more interest in what is going on in our family's life, and ways I can help.
As a whole family, I think we can all honor Shyam masu by helping others and taking joy in the process. Life has blessed us with amazing grandparents, parents, and opportunities, and it is our responsibility to bless others with what we have been blessed with. We love you Shyam. I hope you take peace in the other side. Speak to you soon.

From Tony Hawkins (Neils Boss)
"My Father...My Hero"
Dad, you're my hero...in so many ways,
And I am so grateful to you
I have such respect for the man that you are,
And the wonderful things that you do
You have a heart "as big as an ocean"
A "soft side" you don't often show,
All of your life you worked for your family,
You taught me...and helped me to grow
You were the man I knew I could lean on,
Who fostered a strong sense of pride,
The father who gave me his love and affection,
And always remained by my side
All of my life, Dad, I will be thankful,
That I had a father so true
I never had to search for a hero,
The hero in my life was you.......

Shyam was a friend on the tennis court. He would take the friends he met and get them interested and excited about his charitable works. He was a generous and genial host and a true gentleman! I was one of many who knew him less but felt his impact. I am happy to have been in his orbit.

I have known Shyamji only for the past five years or so. It has been a privilege to know him --- for his willingness to mentor and give advice and for his generosity of thinking of how to think about the community and give back to the community.
I remember the conversation we had one day as I was walking in the gym where he asked me questions about the spiritual audiobook I was listening to ... forcing me to think beyond the stories and the message behind the stories.
God bless his soul!
My heartfelt condolences to Sushmaji and the family at this difficult time.
