Obituary of Shyam S. Choudhary

Please share a memory of Shyam to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Shyam Sundar Choudhary passed away on Monday July 13, 2020 (in Herndon, Virginia) after living a life devoted to God through serving others and transforming everyone around him with a spirit full of positivity, love and joy.  He is survived by his loving wife, Sushma Choudhary; his daughters, Preeti Choudhary, Veerangana Chakraborti, and Prarthana Rajan; his son, Neil Choudhary; four loving grandchildren, Kavi, Rishi, Anika and Vidya; his business partner and best friend Ashok Goswami; his sisters Kushla Agarwal, Manjula Gupta and Sadhana Chhabra; and countless family and friends.  He is predeceased by his sister, Beena Jain.  He was unconditionally devoted to his family and friends.

Born in Gaya (Bihar) India to Madan Lal Choudhary and Sharbati Devi, he has lived in the United States since 1971.  Like most immigrants, he and his friend Ashok Goswami flew on the same plane to the US with nothing to build a better life.  Shyam was a civil engineer by training with an MBA.  He started his career in code compliance, worked his way up to COO/CFO and co-founded IBTS with Ashok, a not-for-profit Civil Engineering firm.

He spent over 30 years overseeing the delivery of quality services to federal, state, and local governments, working tirelessly to provide financial stability for his employees.  Along with Ashok, he created successful strategies and solutions that grew IBTS from 26 to over 200 employees, leaving behind an incredible legacy.

Shyam followed the teachings of his father who believed the best way to find God was through service to others, especially the underprivileged.  He dedicated himself to this cause throughout his life, from supporting the visually-challenged with critical supplies to providing education and vocational training to children of low-income families.  In his final years, he partnered with the Mahavir Foundation Trust and the Blind Society in Vadodara (Gujarat) India to uplift thousands of families.  Through this work, his life has touched countless people and it continues.

Shyam always sought out life and lived it to the fullest.  He was always ready for a round of tennis, a trip to the movies, or a relaxing massage.  Family time was focused on nurturing with sage advice, lots and lots of laughter, countless adventures, wonderful beach vacations, family gatherings, and loving everyone in the extended family.  If asked to describe him, everyone will unequivocally say that he brought joy to their lives and meaningfully made them better.  Whatever Shyam got from life, he gave back manyfold to others.  True to his middle name, he led a beautiful life and will continue to live on in our hearts.  He will be dearly missed by many, but also celebrated for all the love and light he brought to the world.

A service is planned on Saturday July 18th at 11am ET in Herndon, Virginia and will be streamed at:
