To say our dearest Pat was the most loving, the most gracious, and also among the most keen of observers of life isn’t simply a posthumous rose-colored platitude; it is indeed the truth about a woman whose small size and soft voice belied a stature of enormous, peerless character. How many of us are able to raise three children in various continents, research and publish a tome on one’s family history, then, late in life, adopt the loving responsibility of raising a new generation of children, and suffer unspeakable loss, all without showing an ounce of strain? The answer is — very few, if any. This is a human to be venerated, celebrated, and remembered with deliberate happiness, for attempting to understand the loss of such a person might only fill us with sense of injustice that would too hard to bear.

I have very many cherished memories of talking to Pat with a great deal of comfort and ease. She was always so unassuming, in spite of being highly accomplished and talented woman. She was a great human being with a great degree of compassion care and love for all those who entered her life and those who were need of help. I was highly fond of Pat and going to miss her. May God grant peace to her soul and give her loved ones strength to bear her loss!
