I love you 爺爺.
It breaks my heart that I cannot be there with you, with our family at this time. I want you to know that I am with you with every bit of my soul.
You were always so excited to share with us the newest thing that you had learned. You loved teaching us new things, from small facts to history and even sports. I never managed to become the tennis master that you encouraged me to become but I will never forget the first lesson you gave me. "Watch the ball, hit the ball." Such a simple six words, but in time I figured out it was so much more than that. Find that goal in life and work towards it. Follow through. Give every facet of life that same dedication and perseverance.
I will never forget how much you liked hats. Every time I saw you, your hat was never too far away. Everytime we went out to eat I remember needing to find a place for you to put your hat down, usually on another chair nearby. I remember making sure that your hat didn't fall to the ground and when we were leaving, that it found its way back to the top of your head. It made me so happy when I was able to gift you a hat after getting my first job out of college. I hope you liked it. After seeing it in so many of your photos afterwards, I think you did.
I am blessed to have had you in my life and I hope I've made you proud.
I love you.

I love you 爺爺.
It breaks my heart that I cannot come be with you, and with my family, at this time. But I know that you would understand.
I remember fondly the half-year we spent living with 爺爺奶奶 when I was in the 5th grade; I remember coming home every day to you welcoming us home, and offering us a snack; I remember in the mornings, 爺爺 proudly using his juicer to make us carrot juice for breakfast - 爺爺 knew we did not like it, and that it tasted bad, but he wanted us to be healthy.
I remember Christmas when we were small, and how in the evening's we'd break out the old karaoke LPs - and I remember 爺爺's lovely singing voice.
I remember 爺爺奶奶 coming to my graduation from high school, and from college, and I could not have been prouder that they were there for me.
I remember 爺爺 teaching all the cousins how to play tennis, billiards, and mahjong; and the many blissful hours we spent together enjoying each other's company.
I remember so many other things.
But most importantly, I know that 爺爺 loved us so much, and I hope we grandchildren did half as good a job showing 爺爺 we loved him, as he showed us he loved us.

Dear Yifu,
Thank you for more than a half century of wonderful memories. You are one of my earliest memories from Taiwan and have been a kind, loving, and supportive fixture throughout my entire life. I will always appreciate how you made an extra effort to teach me about traditional Chinese culture (and food) when I was young. These are lessons I will always cherish. I will miss the joyous times we’ve had together, but it gives me comfort to know you will be playing mahjong with my mom.
Your loving nephew,
Sanho

Dear 姑爷爷,
Thank you for all the time we spent together and all the happy memories we shared as a family. Thank you for teaching me how to play tennis, for taking me to my first water park, and for taking me to our favorite Peter Pan. Thank you for the many reunions and thanksgivings with my cousins, aunts, and uncles. Thank you 姑爷爷 and 姑奶奶 for helping me remember my own grandmother.
Last year when you and 姑奶奶 came to stay with us, was some of the happiest memories of my life. Together surrounded by family and friends, we could fill the house with laughter and warmth. I remember when you woke up early with me to pick up Mallory from the airport. You were so excited to surprise her when she landed. I loved watching you and Mallory would play sudoku on the couch. And when Tiffany drove up from San Diego, you were so happy to have both granddaughters together. When we had my 婆婆 over, you would all get together and sing old Taiwanese songs. The last piece of you I have, is a little handwritten guide to our family’s rules to 麻将 in Chinese. I had kept it to study for the next game we would play together.
Our hearts are broken that we cannot be together as a family in this time of great sorrow. But I hope you know how much I miss you, admire you, and respect you. Thank you for always making us feel like a family. I will keep your memory alive in my heart.
Love 崔傳如

Dear Yifu,
It’s so hard to say goodbye, and even harder to express all the of our emotions into words at this
moment. Your passing was so sudden and such a shock to everyone. It seemed like it was just
yesterday that we had a zoom party for your 90th birthday celebration and you were beaming a huge
smile at us! We had gathered to celebrate your birthday then, and now we to celebrate the amazing life
you have led.
You were a fearless soldier, dedicated your life to your country, and your family. The legacy you leave is
tremendous, you have shown and taught us the meaning of love, duty and devotion. We have all been
touched by your attention to the smallest detail and remembering them and cherishing them. Thank
you for showing us all the wonderful qualities of our Chinese culture and how a family patriarch behaves
in caring for every member of his family. Your devotion to Ayhi, and your sons and grandchildren and
great grandchildren is unparalleled. We were able to witness your love and dedication to Ayhi firsthand,
and applaud you as our wonderful role model. Your shoes will be too big to fill but we have an excellent
example to follow.
We know you are smiling down on us from Heaven as you see how beautifully everyone has come
together to celebrate you! We know you are with God now and watching over us! We will love and
cherish you in our hearts forever! And we try to take care of each other and our families as you showed
us!
