Beverly Jean Benjamin (Age 78)

Passed away on Sunday June 6, 2021 peacefully in Manassas, VA with her daughter, Jeanne, holding her hand. Born on May 16, 1943 in Virginia she was preceded in death by her mother Lillian Ella Dellinger. Beverly is survived by her daughter, Jeanne (Mark) Van Sicklen, her two grandchildren Holly Van Sicklen and Nick Van Sicklen and her husband, Golden “Ben” Benjamin.

She would spend time every winter for many years in Crystal River, Florida with her family.  She always wanted to get away from the cold and snow in Virginia. She enjoyed watching sunsets at the beach, going out to eat oysters and just being with her family. Before heading back to Virginia, her car would be filled with tomatoes, oranges and any other gifts she would find to bring back to her friends. The summer heat was not for her so winter was always a nice time to visit Florida. She lived in St. Cloud and Crystal River, Florida for almost 10 years.

She adored her grandchildren with all her heart. She was always informed on their daily life and very proud of them. Anyone that knew her heard about what her grandchildren were doing. She was a very proud University of Florida “Gator” Mamaw. She wore her UF Gator attire proudly and displayed her Gator pride on her car and in her house. Her phone calls to her grandson during Gator football games was a must.

She always knew family was a phone call away. Morning and evening phone calls with her daughter were a daily routine with several phone calls during the day just to talk about whatever popped into her mind. Evening phone calls were always the best. Couldn’t go to bed without a little teasing about one thing or another with her daughter and son-in-law. It was also a routine to have a phone call from her granddaughter on her drive to or from work, this was their special time to talk.

Beverly was a very sharp minded and strong-willed woman.  She never forgot anything and she was always a fighter. She was a wonderful mom that was there for support and to listen. She was also a very caring and loving Mamaw to her grandchildren, spoiling them with frequent gifts even into adulthood.

Beverly was known to many and was always generous and caring to others. She loved to interact with people. She could make a stranger a lifelong friend. Beverly was a server at Virginia Kitchen in Herndon, VA for over 30 years. She loved the interaction with her customers and even after she retired from there she enjoyed going back and seeing her co-workers and the customers that had become like family to her. Living in VA brought her happiness. Living there most of her life, she was comfortable and enjoyed drives to the country (especially during the fall for changing of the leaves), going to the Apple House, going to little country stores that she could browse for trinkets, playing bingo, morning coffee time and pot luck dinners within her community. She had the pride of being a Virginian.

Beverly touched a lot of hearts throughout her life and everyone meant a lot to her. She will be missed more than she ever thought. She leaves behind her husband, daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws, many cousins and a multitude of friends all of which will now have the memory of this wonderful person that I am proud to call my Mama.
