Obituary of William Barbour

“Come unto me, all that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

Peacefully, on February 2, 2023, with his wife and daughters by his side, William Barbour, Jr. was called home by Almighty God, who in his infinite wisdom, mercy, and grace, gently closed his eyes as he entered eternal rest.

William Barbour, Jr. was born on August 15, 1960, to Georgie Barbour and William Barbour, Sr., who preceded him in death. He accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and continued to serve and trust the will of God. He was the eldest of three sons and a great example for his brothers, Tracy and Michael. He was a tough act to follow. His aunt Lilia Mae Barbour, whom he loved, helped to raise him and his brothers.

William married Robin Jones in 1994. They had been friends and dated many years before he asked her to be his wife. Their love, admiration, and respect for one another was surreal to most. They would have celebrated their twenty-ninth wedding anniversary on August 6, 2023. William and Robin have two beautiful daughters, Mikala Sharri and Maya Ari. William was blessed to see and celebrate both daughters as they graduated college with honors. They were his pride and joy. He was also proud of and doted on his nephew, Joshua Jones, along with his other nieces and nephews. William was a great provider and protector for his family.

William was educated in the Albemarle County school system and graduated from Western Albemarle High School, where he played basketball. He attended Hampden-Sydney College where he continued to play basketball and pledged the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. There, he met life-long friends that remained close until his passing. After graduation, William moved to Northern Virginia, and it became his home. William was sincere and honest with his family and the friends he valued so dearly. Always cheerful with a terrific sense of humor, he was fun to be around. He loved sports, cooking and grilling, traveling, hunting, and hanging out with his family and friends. William was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan who traveled to many games both in Dallas and in Washington, D.C. with his friends.

William worked for State Farm Insurance for many years in claims and as a claims manager. In 1992, he went on to become an independent State Farm Insurance Agent. He remained in this capacity until his death. William was a true professional and leader in the industry. He obtained several certifications and designations in his field while mentoring other agents along the way. He was loved by his clients and many others in the industry. He was a member of the National Association of State Farm Agents, The Herndon Chamber of Commerce, The Moore Golf League, and several other organizations where he contributed to their missions.

William leaves to cherish his memory and legacy of love, his loving wife, Robin; loving daughters, Mikala Sharri and Maya Ari; mother, Georgie R. Barbour, Crozet, VA; brothers, Vincent Tracy Barbour (Erika), of Mableton, GA and Michael Barbour, of Crozet, VA; father-in-law, James L. Jones (Kathy) of Appomattox, VA; brothers-in-law, Anthony Jones, Powhatan, VA; James D. Jones (Lisa), Midlothian, VA; Maurice Lewis (Deandra), Dillwyn, VA; sister-in-law, Andrea Yvette Jones, Farmville, VA; nieces, Shallon Chambers (Wayne), Tyler Hunter Smith (Rayshard) of Dillwyn, VA; nephews, Joshua Jones, Richmond, VA, Justin Jones, Richmond, VA and Maurice Lewis of Dillwyn, VA. He also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces, nephews, and friends, whom he loved.
