My brother Bruce was a very unique individual, and yet he fit in everywhere. He was kind, loving, compassionate and fiercely opinionated. He had no problem sharing his beliefs. He was pro God, Pro family, pro America! He got quite excited at times talking politics. My fondest childhood memories of my brother were during Christmas time. We sang together old Christmas classics that my father would play on the stereo for hours. Just laughing, dancing and singing! Most recent times that I hold dear to my heart are the many visits to their beach house. Playing games, laughing, enjoying meals and relaxing together- just loving being together.
Bruce, I will miss you my dear brother and forever friend but know that I will sing, dance and laugh with you again — in heaven!
I love you….
Your little sister,
Carol

Bruce was a good friend, who cared deeply about his family, country and friends. We had many fun times together whether sitting on the beach, going to dinner or our many New Year Eve celebrations! Bruce and John enjoyed working together figuring out the best way to fix something.
We will miss him!

My brother Bruce. He was truly someone special!
I’m sure my brother and sisters will have certain specific memories about Bruce but I wanted to share my memories of just some of his incredible achievements as he was one of those uniquely “all-in” sort of persons. When he latched onto something he wanted to do he gave it his all!
Bruce didn’t compete in team sports like football or basketball. He was however very competitive and gravitated toward individual achievement activities.
I remember, back when he was in ninth grade, he wanted to play the clarinet. Well play it he did! He practiced and practiced and became one of the best clarinet artists in the state! In tenth and eleventh grades in high school, he competed state-wide in South Carolina and achieved “second chair” in the state! Number two, both years, in the entire state at clarinet!
When we transferred to Texas he was interested in learning about gymnastics so he got involved. Next thing you know, he’s the best boy gymnast on the high school gymnastics team! He took his love for gymnastics with him when our dad retired from the Air Force and moved us to South Carolina. He finished his senior year of high school and went to Clemson University where he used his passion to bring others in the state to the sport. He started gymnastics at Clemson and was president of the gymnastics club which he created. He worked with the university to get the space and funding to purchase and install all the equipment the university would need to have a gymnastics team and started teaching others in the sport.
Later in life he wanted to be a pilot. So, of course, Bruce gets his pilot’s license, of course, Bruce gets his own plane, of course, Bruce gets his commercial pilot’s license and, of course, Bruce begins flying corporate executives in company private planes! OF COURSE…..THIS IS MY BROTHER BRUCE.
I will miss his intelligence, and willingness to put forth the planning and effort to get things done! I am so sad that he is gone from this earth.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Ellen, and all of his family. He was truly a unique and gifted person.
See you in heaven Brother!
Love you!
Bob

When thinking of Uncle Bruce I think of so many fun memories. From producing some of the biggest splashes from his cannonballs, to flying over the Clemson stadium.
Uncle Bruce was also a big support, as he was always willing to help my classroom thru his kind donations.
He will be greatly missed.

One of my most cherished memories of Uncle Bruce was a time I visited him and Ellen at their beach house in OBX. It was a beautiful weekend, but a category 4 hurricane was supposed to hit as well. That day we saw a few small branches fly into the yard and as the evening progressed we decided to enjoy one of God’s powerful forces of nature. Bruce, Brian and I ran to the beach and danced in the strong winds and rain. It was crazy! But it was also such an amazing and freeing experience that I will never forget sharing with my uncle. I’ll miss him so dearly.

I and my family share our sympathy. Ellen is a dear friend, and we will never forget the loving gesture of Bruce flying Ellen to pay respects at our Mom’s funeral 5 years ago. This meant so much to me and truly touched my family also. We send our love and prayers at this time of sorrow.

Bruce was a good fun loving member of the family on Sothel Street. He did love the beach. We would laugh & say “how many of Bruce’s family can he fit in his house on the 4th of July”. He didn’t care , he always provided a place for them to lay their heads. He just wanted everybody there, thats how Bruce was. We had good times on that street. I’m so thankful for the memories we have with Bruce ,Ellen & their families.
RIP GOOD MAN.

One of my beloved memories of my uncle Bruce is at one of our family reunions at his home in the outer banks when I was about 11 or 12. One early morning my uncle Bruce woke me up and asked if I would like to go on a short flight around the island with him. I agreed and off we went to the airport but first a quick stop by Dunkin’ Donuts. I just remember being amazed by the flight. My uncle showed me a few places on the island while also talked to me about flying. I will forever treasure that moment for the rest of my life. Thank you uncle Bruce. You will be missed.
