Gulab, my cousin-in-law--I have the warmest memories of him going back to our teenage years in Lucknow, Bombay, and later in New York. I remember Gulab always with a smile on his face, warm and affectionate, generous with his time when we needed his advice and help with our computer. He came over to set it up, gave us all the extras, plus plenty of useful tips; he was always at the other end of the line when we needed help. He was so very kind and helpful in all ways, beyond just tech (for which he often had a refreshing skepticism). He was so loving, kind and helpful to every one--a dear and beautiful soul lost much too early.
In loving remembrance,
Veena Thadani/Doug Meuer

Gulab
For me, losing a brother like Gulab is like losing a part of oneself. Yet his love and caring will live on like a legacy which will be deeply cherished and will remain with me for the rest of my life - forever.
From a very early age, Gulab was the cynosure of everyone's eyes. Warm hearted, gracious, and most affectionate by nature, he would completely disarm those who met with him. And to add to that, with his sense of humour and his wit, those who met him, never forgot him.
For me, he was the Best of the Best, in every respect. A loving and caring son and a terrific brother, he made us proud of his personality, his achievements, as he grew up.
Always a topper in academics in school (we both studied in La Martiiniere Lucknow), he was a good sportsman too- school rugby team etc.
Our bond began in those early years and kept getting stronger over time. He had the most magnanimous nature - always bringing expensive gifts when he moved to the US after he married Trimona.
Completely selfless, he would always - Give, never having any demands nor expectations.
As a couple, he and Trimona seemed forever in love, sharing and caring for each other. It was so nice, so joyful - their relationship.
He would dote on his children Samir Serena, and never stopped talking lovingly pf his grand kids - Anna, Issac, Anjali and Connor.
While remaining kind hearted and caring, when it came to fighting adversity, he tough and gutsy. He was resilient and never gave up. He fought and overcame challenges and always emerged stronger.
Extraordinarily genuine and honest, he had a heart of gold. People like Gulab are
just not made any more.
I say this not because I was blessed
to be his brother, but he was indeed a Perfect Gentleman, adored admired by everyone he met.
Gulab, your going has left a deep sense of emptiness, a void which can never be filled. We will miss you deeply. Wherever you are, may you remain in peace tranquility and serenity. Love you so much Gulab.

As a little girl, I knew Gulab only as the dashingly handsome uncle — the one with movie star good looks.
As a young adult, when I first arrived in the US from India, I encountered his wide open heart and extreme generosity. Trim and Gulab made their home mine. They made sure that even though I was far, I’d never feel distant from home.
A few years in, when I called Gulab (as I often did) to get summer internship advice, he made room for me at his company. Turns out, that’s where I met my now husband Salil those 33 years ago!
When Gulab walked me down the aisle at my wedding - I knew he had forever altered my life’s trajectory in the best possible way.
—
Gulab, thank you for showing me what kindness truly is. You helped people just because you wanted to - never because you needed to.
Thank you for your generous spirit - that showed me the real meaning of family.
Thank you for your eternal sense of humor - you demonstrated how to keep it even through adversity.
How lucky am I to have had and known an uncle who showed me how humanity is done.
Gulab, I know heaven holds a special place for you. I hope you know that as you leave this earth — you’ve left an indelible imprint and invaluable piece of you in each of us. Thank you for being you ❤️

Will miss you Chacha….Chacha as we fondly called him, even though he was my fathers older sibling. I cherish all the time spent with him in my childhood. He pampered me whenever he came to India with pretty dresses and dolls. And I was always in awe of how well he spoke and how good he looked.
My favourite memory is when we he was visiting India, I was barely 8 years old. My Dad was in France for 6months and I hadn’t seen him. When we went to drop Chacha to the airport, I hounded him to take me to my Dad in his suitcase.
We didn’t have the privilege to spend enough time with him in this lifetime but I will always remember him as a warm, kind and large hearted person. He loved my brothers and me dearly and I only wish we could have spent more times together.
Samir and Serena – hope you know that you have 3 siblings in India, always there for you.
On behalf of Abhijeet, Armaan and Anaaya we hope you’re at peace and in a happy place!
Until we meet again…

Gulab was the rock of the Bhavnani clan. Everyone -- cousins, aunties, uncles (including my Dad) looked up to him. He was our childhood hero, ever ready with his infectious grin and kindness. He had a generous heart, was a thoughtful listener, and a mentor to us and many others.
He was a noble example of what it is to be a true gentleman. Our lives have been enriched to have known him.

From our childhood days, during my occasional visits to Lucknow, I got to know Gulab and his even-handed nature, and I looked up to him as an older brother, four years older than me. We had fun times in Hazratganj, at Super Cleaners, on “ghode gaadi” rides and much more at Havelock Road. And when he went off to IIT, I set my sights on doing that as well. Gulab returned often to visit my family in Calcutta during his breaks from Kharagpur, and kept us entertained with his exploits. He vowed us cousins with his rendition of “Diana” and “Bernardine”, among others.
When Gulab graduated from IIT Kharagpur, he moved in with us for a time while he joined IBM in Calcutta. It was shortly after that that it became my time to go off to IIT. We met in Lucknow when he was getting married to the love of his life. Then we caught up again when Gulab moved to the US and we stayed in touch; he always made time to learn about my own career, and to give advice and guidance.
Gulab was a truly special person, and I am blessed to have known him for most of my life.
Rest In Peace, dear brother.

We were shocked and saddened to learn that Gulab left us! So many sweet memories flashed through our minds!
Gulab was such a kind and wonderful person. We will always be inspired by his example. He battled life's adversities with his contagious smile, infectious positivity, indomitable spirit, and unwavering determination - never, ever complaining or blaming anyone, and throughout, he continuously pursued his passion for helping others through his philanthropic work and contributions to those in need.
Gulab and Trimona have been great friends to us. We will always cherish the memories we shared together, and his presence will be sorely missed.
Please know that you all are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. If there is anything we can do, please don't hesitate to let us know.

Dear Trimona, Ajit and family,
So sorry to hear about Gulab. May his soul rest in eternal peace at Waheguru's lotus feet. May He give you all the strength to bear his loss. Please accept my deepest sympathies.
I had known Gulab since I was a young boy in Calcutta. He was older to me, but since our parents were good friends we got to know each other. As I went through college, he was at IBM in India and would always ask me how I was doing and had encouraging words for me. When I joined IBM in the USA (he was settled in to IBM in the US also) he & I would chat quite often and he would share his mentoring advice and we stayed in touch. I still remember one day when he called me up and told me "Main IBM chhor raha hoon" . He was leaving IBM and starting a new career. I felt good that he would call me and share that before he left. It had been easy to chat on the IBM tie-line phone and long distance calls were not common in the early 80's. We were busy in our own lives and careers and we lost touch. However I kept up with how Gulab was doing from common friends in the DC area. I wish I had picked up the phone to call him.
Ajit - we got to know each other better when we were both posted in Tezpur, but have lost touch. I still have fond memories of some of our crazy activities there. I hope we can refresh our contact.

Dear Trimona, Sameer, Serena, Bryan and family,
We were saddened to get the news that Gulab passed away.
We first met Gulab and Trimona in 1972, when we both lived in New York City. We found we had many interests in common, and also had many friends in common. That began a lifelong friendship. When we bought a home in Connecticut, as did Gulab and Trimona, we would meet frequently, first at their home in New Fairfield, CT and then at their home in Golden’s Bridge, NY. Many years later, Gulab and Trimona moved to Virginia. We continued to meet and enjoy each other’s company – at New Year’s eve celebrations and weddings in the Washington D.C. area.
Gulab always had a smile and a kind word, he genuinely cared for the people he met. He was also very knowledgeable and continued to be in demand in his profession, till he decided to retire.
We will always cherish memories of our many interactions with Gulab and will miss him a lot. Rest in Peace Gulab.

We grew old together and held on to our friendship to keep gowing and remember all the marvelous things that bring us to this point. In 1966 after we graduated we both joined IBM in Kolkata and shared a flat in New Alipore, till we both got married and I moved to New Delhi. When my father visited us in Kolkata, he met Gulab and told me that "he was a perfect gentleman." That is exactly what Gulab was. He always had a smile on his face and a kind word for everyone. Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Gulab?
A: On june 8, 2014 Gulab emailed me, "Ved: I will be your contact for WHEELS. Perhaps the best way to get acquainted is to start with a conference call. I'm available next week. My number is 703-254-9650". And that is how I got started with WHEELS and took up a position as the Director of Education. Not only Gulab was always helpful, with a smile, he was also a nice guy. He was one year senior to me at IIT, in the same department. I will greatly miss him. May his soul be at peace.

I remember the first time I met Gulab who had already been in IIT for a year in 1962. He and Piggy Sharma were both from La Martiniere and good friends. We ended up in the same wing and Gulab and one of his Electrical classmates Bhatele were with us. I had close interaction with him for the duration of his stay. We would often go together with other wingmates to the mess for meals. He was a fine gentleman even in the hurly burly of student life.
When we were together in Calcutta he used to take us to the Marine Club where his uncle was the Secretary. It was a change for us from campus life and we made full use of it - swimming, billiards and the bar of course. I was in touch with him while he was with IBM and then lost touch when he moved to the US.
In 1995 I visited the US. I got his number from an IIT database and called him. He was in New Jersey if my memory serves me right. We spoke on the phone for a while catching up on old friends. He said that he was busy with work and we were also traveling around a lot. Sad that we couldn't meet. Later we were able to interact on I think Linkedin. I met his brother Ajit in Delhi when Vinod Gupta visited and we all got together for dinner. Again a long time back. Sad to see a friend and colleague go early. Sincere condolences from Sunita and I to the family.
