Obituary of Dan Poteet

Dan Poteet, age 66, of Reston, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly on March 30, 2023. He was predeceased by his father Jim Poteet, and survived by his wife, Clytie Catrett, son, Evan Poteet, stepsons, Brian and Charles (Sebila) Raubacher and grandchildren Benjamin and Leyla, his mother Nancy Poteet, and sisters Melinda Alexander and Pam Valko, and numerous other family members and friends.  

Dan was born in Lubbock, Texas and attended Texas Tech as well as University of Oklahoma where he studied Engineering, which led to a long career as a Virginia State Licensed Land Surveyor. He married his loving wife in 1994 and has lived and worked in the Northern Virginia area for the last 35 years. 

Papa Dan loved being a grandparent.  He and Clytie recently bought a camper and looked forward to camping with grandchildren and traveling across the country.  He fulfilled a lifelong desire and traveled through England and Scotland, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and got to walk the city wall of Dubrovnik.  He enjoyed reading and had an eclectic collection of books. Dan was known for making friends easily and enjoyed talking to everyone. He made people feel important and at ease. He will be greatly missed.
