Obituary of Janet Marie Wood

Janet Marie Wood, age 83, passed away peacefully at home on April 3, 2023.  She was the daughter of John Greer and Mildred Dorothy Creighton, born on December 5, 1939 in Washington, DC.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband Milton (Bud) Joseph Wood, her parents, her sister, Susan Creighton and her grandson Bryant Picou.  She grew up in Falls Church, VA and graduated from Falls Church High School.  She graduated from business school and worked for many years at the Untied States Geological Survey in Reston, Va.

Janet married Milton (Bud) Wood in June of 1960.  They bought their first home together in a newly established community, Sterling Park, in 1963 and it remained their forever home.  Janet was a very talented seamstress and spent many years making clothing from her home.  She was also talented at needlepoint and quilting. Janet was a member of the Gotta Dance Troupe for many years, tapping and dancing with her longtime friends.  She made many of the costumes for the group to wear at their annual recitals.  She loved spending time with her kids, grandkids, great-grandkids and friends.  Janet also enjoyed spending time in the Outer Banks with her family and many friends over the years.

Janet is survived by her 2 children:  daughter, Sharon M. Brango, and her husband Nicholas Jr. (Skip) of Ashburn, VA; son, Michael J. Wood and his wife Cheryl of Potomac Falls; 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren: Nicole Weirick and her husband David, and daughter Reese of Pennsylvania; Kirk Picou and his wife Jessica, and daughters Delaney and Molly and son Brody of Stephenson, VA; Morgan Miller and her husband Eric of Charlotte, NC and Mitchell Wood of Potomac Falls, VA as well as much loved nieces and nephews.

A mass will be held on Friday April 14, 2023 at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Sterling, VA at 11:00 AM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, or the Friends Of Homeless Animals (FOHA).  Arrangements handled by Adams Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden St., Herndon, VA.  To sign the online guest book, send condolences, or view a detailed obituary, please visit www.adamsgreen.com.
