We are devastated by the loss of Sara and have struggled due to our inability to come to terms with it. We came to know her later in our lives, a little over 12 years ago, and were immediately enthralled by both Sara and her Husband, Gerry. We were fortunate to be able to meet with them in Italy in 2012 with other friends where we spent a week traveling together and enjoying all that Tuscany had to offer. Subsequently, we were able to socialize with them on innumerable occasions and had finalized arrangements to travel with them for three weeks in France in 2020, only to have the COVID pandemic negate those plans. Sara influenced us to join the Encore Chorale of Reston in 2019. She was a committed participant in the Chorale program. We celebrated her continuing participation during the last twelve months, although her illness gradually sapped her ability to sing as frequently and with as much vigor as she would have liked. Sara’s intelligence and engaging personality endeared her to us. We so enjoyed her ability to discuss knowledgeably nearly any topic, her caring manner, her love of sports, particularly baseball, and her enthusiasm for life and adventure. She will be greatly missed.

Gerry,
We were sad to hear of Sara’s passing. We were always happy to hear Sara was going to make the visit back to Carrollton with you. We always enjoyed our visits with her. She always showed so much interest in what was going on with Fair Acres, farming and of course our kids and grandchildren. We will cherish all of our memories with her. We will keep all of your family in our prayers.

Mr. Gerry, I was saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Sara through my great uncle Bob Schmidt. My names Nicole I’m not sure if you remember spending time with my parents Kelly and Steve and my brother Ryan and I at Wilson Point! I’m very sorry for your loss and I’m praying Jesus would comfort in this time. My favorite memory of Mrs. Sara is her teaching us how to “filet a fish” (using cheddar goldfish of course). I think about her almost every time I eat goldfish! She was such a caring and gentle woman and she will surely be missed by all!

It was with shock and sadness that I opened the obituary page of the Washington Post and saw Sara's beautiful picture. We were docents together at the Corcoran Gallery of Art many years ago now, but I have never forgotten her. She was smart, creative, energetic, funny, and a joy to be around. Her skills as a teacher and her enthusiasm made her a wonderful docent. Although we haven't seen each others in years, I have very fond memories of Sara, and on occasions with Gerry when we had functions including spouses.
May the love you shared and the memories of each moment together sustain you in this time of great loss and heartbreak.

We were so sorry to hear of Sara's passing. Much too soon for someone so full of life. We met Sara over 25 years ago and were impressed with her intelligence, quick wit, and sense of humor.
We shared many good times over the years with her and Gerry. We traveled together 3-4 times a year throughout the US and Europe. Those trips were always great fun. Many times Sara would come up with a great adventure or unique experience that we would all enjoy. Here sense of humor would keep us going if we sometimes got a little tired during a 3-4 week trip.
She will be missed by all those who knew her. May she rest in peace.

Dear Gerry,
I was so saddened to hear about Sara's passing. I so enjoyed her during the years that she was studying Italian with me. She was such an interesting, pleasant and adventurous soul! I remember the days we spent in Barcelona together, such fun times! My heartfelt condolences.
