Please share a memory of Sara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Sara Withers Koster of Reston, Virginia, on August 15, 2023, at age 79.  She was born in Bennington, Vermont, on June 30, 1944, the second child of Samuel C. Withers, Jr. and Elizabeth Withers, (Ohl).

Sara was retired from teaching at the Montessori Country School in Herndon, VA.  She also spent two years teaching kindergarten in Alice Springs, Australia, in the 1970s.

Sara is survived by her husband Gerald (Gerry) Koster, her brother George Withers of Maryland  (Donna Martin), her sister Miranda Hogan of Vermont, and stepchildren Kristin Koster and Darin Koster (Amy Novesky) of California.  She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Janet Clauss of Wisconsin and Sally Koster of Texas as well as many loving nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by a brother, Samuel C. Withers III.

Sara was a life-long learner and world traveler.  A graduate of George Washington University, she was fluent in Italian, French and German.  She and Gerry visited countries around the world, enjoyed numerous trips to Europe and spent many months living in Italy.  At home in Reston, she also enjoyed being a member of the Encore Chorale, a singing group for seniors.

A private Celebration of Life gathering will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to the Montessori Country School, 621 Alabama Drive, Herndon, VA 20170 in the memory of Sara.

Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on her Tribute Page at www.adamsgreen.com
