Obituary of Charles Arthur Berreth

Charles A. Berreth, 87, of Sterling, VA passed away peacefully in his sleep after a battle with dementia, August 21 at a hospital in Leesburg. He was 87.

Charles is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Nancy and his parents Art and Erna Berreth.  He is survived by his 2 children, Chuck (spouse Leigh) and Jim, and three grandchildren (Riley, Allison and Randy) along with his sister-in-law Linda and nephew (Dean).

Charles grew up in Arlington, VA and attended Washington & Lee High School graduating in 1954. After high school he graduated from what is now Virginia Commonwealth University in 1960.

After graduating college Charles was drafted into the Army where he served from 1960-1962, with most of that time being stationed in Korea.  After his service ended, he worked for the state of Virginia in Richmond, where he later met and married Nancy in 1964. Charles took a job in Washington D.C in 1965 as a Labor Economist with the U.S. Department of Labor where he remained until his retirement in 1997.  During that time, he authored numerous articles about state labor laws for the Department. 

During their years together Charles and wife Nancy raised 2 children in Vienna, VA.  They loved attending and volunteering at their respective churches, taking walks and watching football and baseball games.

A memorial will be held at Adams Green Funeral Home on Friday September 8, 2023, between 11:00am and Noon.  Reception to follow at Jimmy’s Old Town Tavern, Herndon, VA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
