Mr Spriggs was an incredible example for young men and women who had the honor and luck to cross under his path. He showed so much tough love that’s missing today and I will never forget the impact he had on me as a young man determined to not listen - he got through like no one else could.

My deepest condolences to Mr. Sprigg's family and friends. (Even 40 years later, I can't bring myself to refer to him as Bernard).
My deepest gratitude to his family for sharing him with a bunch of kids, looking to belong to something new at the time, something bigger than themselves. He showed me kindness when kindness was in short supply. Lessons I learned from him in the two years he taught me, I carry them with me to this day. Rest in peace. Fair winds and following seas, Sir.

Bernard Spriggs Sr., was a loving father, a guiding light to his family, and a patriarch of the Spriggs tribe. He was not just a patriarch in name but in every sense of the word. He was the cornerstone of our family, the one whose wisdom and strength held us together through the storms of life. He taught us the importance of love, respect, and unity within the family, values that continue to bind us today.
My grandfather’s legacy extends far beyond his immediate family. He was a friend, a mentor, and a role model to many. His generosity knew no bounds, and his willingness to help others was a testament to his compassionate heart.
As we mourn his passing, let us also celebrate the life he lived. Let us remember the laughter he brought, the lessons he imparted, and the love he shared. While we feel the emptiness left by his departure, we can find solace in the knowledge that his values and spirit live on in each of us.
You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

I was very fortunate to meet Bernie and Mary when the pipes froze at their residence in Ocean Pines. During the renovation project we developed a wonderful relationship through our mutual love of music. I will cherish all of the cd’s he gave to me. I continued to act as his property manager for several years, giving him peace of mind in his absence. I enjoyed listening to all of Bernie’s life stories and words of wisdom (take one shot of apple cider vinegar daily). I’ll miss hearing Bernie’s voice and he’ll be forever in my heart. ♥️ Love, Meg

DAD -
Although he was legally my Father-in-Law, in my heart his has been my “Dad” from the first moment I met him. Dad was amazing at all the he did in life; military, mentoring & guiding the younger generations, singing and artwork. But most of all he was an AMAZING FATHER to us all.
The love he had for his family was never in doubt. He made himself available to help with his grand babies when their Dad had to be out at sea (including cleaning floors when visiting :).). His strong but loving guidance showed all of our babies the love he had for each of them individually. He was very very proud of them and told them often.
He excelled in the military and proudly reached the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. After completing his 20 years, he returned to service once again as there was still work to be done. When he finally retired he continued to train and mentor many youth in various JROTC programs. We were lucky enough to be able to see his teams perform in Virignia Beach. He really loved all his cadets and only wanted the best for them.
I will miss everything about him but most of all, “YOU BETTER GET YOURSELF OVER HERE”, his hugs and kisses.
He is going to be greatly missed but never ever forgotten.
We LOVE you Dad!

I was very fortunate to be able to stay connected with this man for years after I left the program. He and would talk weekly. I got the chance to go and visit him shortly after he was first diagnosed with the cancer. This was in July of 2021! They only have him 2 months at that time. And if any of you truly knew the man, you’d know that he’d figure out a way to beat that. And he did. Until this weekend. He was my teacher, my mentor and most of all my friend.
I’ll miss you sir.
Forever your Turkey!

I rise on this occasion to Spotlight, a great man.
My father Bernard A. Spriggs Sr. was destined to serve our country by joining the Navy and then served his community and school system through the JROTC program that served our youth by molding and developing leadership with life skills while mentoring them through life challenges. He taught students self-respect while respecting others, setting goals, and then achieving them. There is no shame in failure if you learn from your mistakes and try again.
DAD you were a core idol in my life, through your achievements and I have always wanted to make you proud. Your legacy lives on through our children’s growth and achievements.
I LOVE YOU, DAD. Thank you!!

In the vast tapestry of life, those rare individuals leave an indelible mark on the souls they touch. Mr. Spriggs was one such beacon of light, a guiding star in the vast expanse of Herndon High School's NJROTC.
From the moment I stepped into the halls of Herndon High School, Mr. Spriggs was there, extending a hand of friendship and mentorship. He welcomed me and countless others with a warm smile and an open heart, ensuring that we never felt lost or alone.
It wasn't just his welcoming nature that set Mr. Spriggs apart; it was his unwavering belief in each of us. At times when self-doubt clouded my vision, he was the voice of reason, reminding me of my worth and potential. He had this uncanny ability to see the diamond in the rough, to nurture it, and to bring out its brilliant shine.
His impact wasn't limited to the confines of the classroom or the NJROTC grounds. Mr. Spriggs was a cornerstone of our lives, teaching us lessons beyond textbooks. He instilled in us the values of integrity, discipline, and self-belief. He was our mentor, our guide, and, above all, a friend who stood by us through thick and thin.
The void left by Mr. Spriggs is palpable. His absence is felt in every corner of Herndon High School, in every NJROTC drill, and in every heart he touched. But while he may no longer be with us in person, his legacy lives on. It lives on in the confidence he instilled in us, the values he taught, and the countless lives he enriched.
To Mr. Spriggs, a true gem of Herndon High School, you will forever be missed but never forgotten. Your memory will continue to inspire and guide us, reminding us of the incredible power of belief, mentorship, and genuine kindness. Rest in peace, dear Sir. Your legacy is eternal.

The day we got married you looked at me and said, "My Love comes from within, you have no idea how much I love you and adore you, welcome home Mrs. Spriggs welcome home!" My dear love, I will love you for eternity and someday we will be together again! Until then, I will just say good night my love!

He taught me to not let anyone say I couldn't do something, even if it was him. He always wanted the best for us,and didn't allow us to think anything less. Fast Forward I stand here as a man now and thank you for everything I have learned from you. Anyone who’s had the pleasure of meeting my grandfather, was instantly serenaded by his undeniable charisma, his quick wit, wisdom, and AMAZING singing voice. It was he, who taught me to use apple cider vineager if I had heart burn and as awful of a taste as it was, it worked! He was an excellent story teller and always kept his word.
The most precious memory I have of him, stems from a secret I told him as a child. Now, if you asked me what the secret was I could not tell you but HE never forgot. Before we’d hang up the phone, or part ways, he’d ALWAYS tell me he loved me, and that he never told anybody my secret….He will be miss him greatly….
