Obituary of Bernard Alen Spriggs, Sr.
Bernard Alen Spriggs Senior of Waldorf Maryland. An 86-year-old proud decorated veteran of the United States Navy lost his battle with Cancer on September 8th, 2023.
The Son of Mary and Nelson Spriggs, Bernard Spriggs Sr. was born on February 25th, 1937, and grew up in Washington D.C.
At the age of 17 Bernard Spriggs Sr. enlisted in the United States Navy. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer (CWO3). As part of his 24-year service, he was deployed to several duty stations and served aboard many Aircraft Carriers during war and peace times.
Bernard Spriggs Sr. is survived by his wife Mary Elizabeth Spriggs, daughter Geraldine Hoffler, son Bernard Spriggs Jr., daughter-in-law Sylvia Spriggs, son Eric Spriggs, daughter-in-law Jen Spriggs, and daughter Amanda King along with eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Mr. Spriggs settled into a life of service in several school systems, coaching and mentoring young people in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program, providing life training in leadership development skills for all attendees.
In addition to his various careers, Bernard Spriggs Sr. was an amazing singer and performer (solo or on stage with military jazz bands, and civic organizations). In addition, he leaves behind his legacy of artwork, painting on velvet.
** A viewing will be held on the 21st of September at Adams-Green Funeral Home located at - 721 Elden Street, Herndon VA from 1300 – 1600 and laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery at later date.
