Whenever I think of Sharon, I must smile. She was fun. She was caring. She was involved with people and her community. She was spiritual and open to the possibilities of the Universe. She was a sister to Mother Nature and all her children. She was a self-appointed guardian for all critters that entered into her realm. And, ah - the kitties, no matter the number or the situation they were all precious. Sharon was wonderful. Whenever I think of Sharon, I will forever smile.

Sharon was my friend for more than 40 years. We both worked for the National Endowment for the Arts, and we laughed and learned together. After retiring, we continued to laugh and added reminiscences that often made us laugh even more!! Everyone we add to our lives is someone we also learn with, and learn we surely did!! I have missed being with her for quite a long time, as we used to get together on occasions we enjoyed celebrating. Her illnesses and my increasing frailties started to make our getting together more difficult, until it got to a point that we saw each other fewer than one or two times a year, and relied instead on phone conversations, until even that became difficult. I miss her a lot, and will always cherish the wisdom we learned together. She was a gift to everyone!! Sharon's friend, Georgia Jones

Sharon was such a lovely woman! We knew no one in Reston when we moved here. She came out to say hello one evening when I was walking our dog and welcomed us to the neighborhood. As my children grew, they came to know her as the lady who had pretty plants and lots of cats, which they loved. She would stop to talk with them and always spoke to them as equals. My youngest would invite her to tea parties and other gatherings she planned with her friends. Sharon would come if she could or send a note explaining if she couldn't. It meant the world to my kids that she was so kind, that she noticed them, and valued them. We miss her!

I don't remember when Sharon moved into the neighborhood in the mid-80s. I was a 10 year old boy and more interested in Dungeons and Dragons and video games at the time than neighborhood comings-and-goings.
I think my father was the first person in my family to befriend her - he was the neighborhood gardener and car maintenance person and probably gave her some tips or advice on her car. They both had some connections to the South too, which probably made it easy for them to get along.
Shortly thereafter, my mom and Sharon became friends. Both of them love cats, and soon they were cat-sitting and collecting mail for one another if someone was out of town.
But by the early 1990s, Sharon had become much more than a neighbor. She was a friend and and more like a relative. She was invited to all our Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, and she would join if she didn't have other plans. She even brought her father over one Thanksgiving in 1993 and we got to meet Albert.
I had to pass her house to get my mine and she'd often be in the front yard, feeding the neighborhood cats or tending to her plants. I always got a warm fuzzy feeling when I saw her. She was just always so positive. We'd say hi to each other and ask each other how things were. I can only describe it as the feeling you'd get if Mr. Rogers lived in your neighborhood. It would be nice if every neighborhood had someone like that.
The world has lost a truly kind and generous woman, and all animals, especially felines, have lost their best advocate.
On the day she died, a cat coffee mug with a cat sleeping on a warm bed of leaves that said "let's get cozy" that I'd been trying to buy for my mom as her birthday present and had been out of stock for a couple months suddenly became in stock again. I'd like to think that was a message from Sharon - that she's now in a warm and cozy place, like a sleeping cat, and is now at peace.
We thank God for Sharon Pope. She enriched the world with her generosity, her warm spirit, and her caring, and she is deeply loved and missed.
