Obituary of Sharon Lynn Pope
Sharon Lynn Pope, age 79, passed away quietly at The Virginian, on October 24, 2023. She had struggled with poor health for many years. She fought a great fight, battling two cancers, but she was too frail and weak to beat her aspiration pneumonia this year.
Sharon was predeceased by her dear parents, Ola Mae and Albert Pope. She was also predeceased by her only sister, Shirley Jean Davis. Sharon is survived by her first cousin, Donna Steffensmeier, and her niece, Esther Davis Towle.
Sharon was born in Seattle, Washington on December 14, 1943. Her dad was stationed there as an Officer in the Army.
Sharon grew up in several places, but ended up graduating in 1962 at Clarke County High School in Berryville, Virginia. Out of high school she got a secretarial job with the Federal Government. She then came to live with her Aunt Ginny and Donna in Clinton, Maryland for a while. She soon landed many of her own places in Northern Virginia, winding up settling in the mid 1980's at Reston, Virginia.
Sharon worked as an Executive Secretary for the government offices of the FCC and Endowment of the Arts until retirement age. She was fairly active in the Reston community, helping her neighbors, helping with the Democratic elections, but mostly helping with animal and cat rescue groups. Animals, especially cats, were Sharon's true love.
Sharon was a friend and confidant to many. She truly loved meeting up with her friends for movies, house tours, drinks and meals! She was the most positive and grateful person anyone could meet, and she truly stayed that way until the very end.
Sharon's Celebration of Life will be held Friday, November 10, 2023 at The Nature House at Walker Nature Center, 11450 Glade Drive, Reston, Virginia from 1-4 pm.
