Obituary of Diane Elizabeth Welle

Diane Elizabeth Pollard Welle passed away peacefully due to complications from liver cancer on December 17, 2023, in Arlington, Virginia, at the age of 77.

Diane is survived by her husband Tom of Oakton, VA and five children: son Todd Nevin of Harrisburg, PA, step-sons Bryan Haynes of Richmond, VA, and Patrick Andrew White of Manassas, VA, and step-daughters Lauren Welle Leonard of Vienna, VA and Kate Welle of Golden, CO.  Diane also is survived by her brother Dennis Pollard of Vienna, VA, 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  She is predeceased by her parents and step-son David Anthony White.  

Diane was born in the District of Columbia on September 10, 1946, to Russell Pollard and Norma Mason Pollard.  She graduated from The George Washington University in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in business.  Diane’s federal government career included working for the Department of the Navy and the Department of the Air Force.  After retiring, Diane worked for The Women’s Center, Vienna, VA. 

Diane’s passion in life was her family and friends, exemplified by her love and generosity.  Sitting with a glass of wine, laughing and enjoying everyone’s company was her favorite pastime.  At holiday gatherings and impromptu occasions, Diane’s smile and warm welcome made guests feel at home.

Late in life, The Women’s Center’s mission of mental health counseling and community education captured Diane’s dedicated support for more than 10 years.  She began as a volunteer in 2007 and later became an employee, providing administrative talent and special event coordination.  Her generosity helped with the purchase of office supplies and equipment when needed.  She retired in 2019.

A celebration of Diane’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the Adams-Green Funeral Home & Crematory, Herndon, VA.  Rev. Ashley Allen, Oakton United Methodist Church, will officiate the ceremony.  A reception will follow at the home of Karen and Dennis Pollard.
