Dear Janelle and Family, I was shocked to hear of Nick's passing. He was a very good friend and colleague at BDM. I have contacted the Catholic Church, in Reston, to have a Mass said for him. Please accept my deepest sympathy and condolence.

Janelle and family, Our deepest and sincere prayers are with you all during this time. We are truly sorry for your loss. We reflect on a man progressing in years with the sweetness and sincerity of the young man which came before. We regard the concerns which occurred during his time here, the seriousness of a man with confident expectations of things to come – and frightened by nothing. We know, as he always thought, that America's best days are ahead of us, but with his passing, some very fine days are behind us, and that is worth our tears. Now, death has done all that death can do. And as Nicholas Palmiotto goes his way, we are left with the joyful hope he shared. In his last days, he saw through a glass darkly. Now he sees his Savior face to face. And we look to that fine day when we will see him again, all weariness gone, clear of mind, strong and sure, and smiling again, and the sorrow of his parting gone forever. Fair winds and following seas Nick.

Nick was a great friend and a wonderful co-worker. Each time I saw him, I could immediately tell that he loved his family and that he was so proud of his children. He was so driven and eager to challenge himself in so many areas in the all-too-limited time he had on this world. I respected his energy, his lifeforce, and how he fought the illness inside him with a great attitude and pure willpower. I remember the laughs, the soccer games, the move into the Sterling townhouse, the lunches and dinners, the pizzas, the workouts, the successes at work, and his good humour. I will miss him, but I hope he is smiling now, relaxing, and knowing that he made a difference in this world and to many lives, including my own. May his adventurous and brilliant spirit be upheld and extended through his children.
