Obituary of Nicholas Palmiotto

Nicholas Palmiotto '84 Nicholas Palmiotto, died from complications associated with Acute Mylogenous Leukemia at Bethesda Naval Hospital on 6 October 2007. He was 44 years old. A native of Mahopac, NY, was born in Mt Kisco, NY on 18 November 1962. He excelled academically and was Valedictorian of Mahopac High School. In July 1980, Nick entered the US Naval Academy, as a member of the 21 st Company, graduating 11 th in his class in 1984. Upon graduation, Nick chose to attend the elite Nuclear Power School in New London Connecticut and was to be commissioned as a Nuclear Power Submariner. However during his schooling in Orlando, FL, during a routine physical exam, it was discovered that he had issues with his blood that prevented him from serving at sea and he was medically retired from the Navy when he was an Ensign. He continued his education after he retired and received a Masters in Operation Research from George Mason University. Nick worked for the next 20 years as a defense contractor in the greater Metropolitan Washington, DC area, for a number of different firms. During this time, he traveled extensively to Europe, Hawaii, Mexico and through out the United States. Nick was instrumental in developing many programs that assisted the military in computer operations as well as modeling and simulation which enabled the military to save money as well as lives during operations trainings, and eventually supported the Joint Staff during his final years. Nick was also very active in the Republican Party, serving as the 10 th district Treasurer. He worked closely with Congressman Wolf in nominating candidates to the various Military Academies. In addition, Nick was an avid sports fan, which included his favorite New York Teams, the Yankees, the Giants, and the Rangers. A great father, Nick was active in the Boys Scouts with his son and coached many different sports, as well participating in all of his children activities and education. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Janelle Palmiotto, his children, Kyleigh and Chad, his parents, Gay and Pat Palmiotto of Ocala Florida, his brother Andrew Palmiotto, of Seattle Washington and his sister Mary Pat Klopotowski. The family will receive friends from 5-8pm on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007 at Adams-Green Funeral Home 721 Elden St. Herndon, VA. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday Oct. 16 at the U.S.Naval Academy chapel at 10:30am with inurnment to immediately follow.
