Obituary of Grace Marie Roth

Grace Marie Roth, 76 (Nee Bendorf) a former bookkeeper for Park View High School in Sterling, died Saturday, December 17 in Ashburn. Mrs. Roth was born January 5, 1935 in Camden, NJ and grew up in Audubon, NJ. As a young woman, she played the snare drum and was a drum major for one of the first all-girl drum and bugle corps, the Audubon Bon-Bons. She was a former flight attendant for Eastern Airlines, where she met her husband, John (Jack) S. Roth, lived in New York and traveled the country. She and Jack were one of the first families of Sterling Park, moving there in 1963, where they raised four children. They moved to Ashburn Village in 1994. Mrs. Roth was predeceased by her mother, Caroline and father Herman T. Bendorf, Sr., sister, Thomasina Bendorf, and brother, Joseph Bendorf. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jack Roth; daughter, Jacqueline M. Geigel and husband, Ron of Shepherdstown, WV; son, Ronald J. Roth and wife, Nora of Hamilton, VA; daughter Michele M. Roth of Ashburn; and daughter, Carolyn Ann Caylor of Round Hill, VA. She is also survived by five grandchildren who were her pride and joy, Christopher and Rebecca Geigel, Emmett Roth, and Cameron and Kyle Caylor. Surviving siblings include brother Herman T. Bendorf, Jr. and spouse Nona of Pennsylvania; brother Charles Bendorf and spouse, Janice of New Jersey, brother Francis Bendorf and spouse, Pierrette of Florida; sister Patricia Johansen of Colorado; sisters Kathleen Wark and Mary Robinson and spouse David of New Jersey; and sister-in-law Delores Bendorf; in addition to many nieces and nephews. She will also be greatly missed by the Roth family in-laws, Don and Patricia Roth of St. Louis, Missouri; Dorothy Bennett, Maryann Nedved and Lillian and spouse John Magistro of Ohio; Elizabeth and Dan Lipperman of Texas, Ron Pollack, of Kentucky, Betty Roth of Florida and Audrey Leeker of Florida, and many life-long friends. Mrs. Roth was a founding member of the Northern Virginia Cardinals, the first drum and bugle corps from the Northern Virginia area; and she taught the color guard. She was active in her children's sports, theater, dance, music, swimming and gymnastics activities. She loved to see their passion carried on to her grandchildren, and traveled to watch many soccer, hockey, lacrosse, baseball and basketball games as well as her only granddaughter's music performances. She loved playing bridge, putting together jigsaw puzzles, watching musicals and the Washington Redskins. Mrs. Roth touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden St., Herndon, VA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 750 Peachtree Street, Herndon, VA. Interment to follow at Sterling Cemetery, Church Rd., Sterling, VA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Grace's name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
