Rogers, Wilfred Lee (Age 88)
Colonel USA Ret.
Wilfred Lee Rogers, a retired Army Colonel who also worked for a defense contracting firm in the Washington area, died of complications of pneumonia at Falcons landing on January 22, 2012. Colonel Rogers served 30 years in the Army before retiring in 1975. This included duty in Hawaii, Germany, and Korea during the War there. He settled in Washington in 1975 following staff assignments in the Pentagon and Army Material Command. His decorations included the combat infantryman badge, three awards of the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Star Medals and the Army Commendation Medal.
A resident of Alexandria, he was born in Lovelock, Nevada and attended the University of Nevada for two years before obtaining an appointment to West Point., from which he graduated in 1945. He also received a Masters of Science Degree in Personnel Management from George Washington University. After his military retirement, he served as a senior program manager at Unified Industries, Inc., a Springfield- based contracting firm.
Survivors include three daughters, Karen Gable of Manassas, VA, Karleen Rogers and Keli Rogers-Lopez, both of Los Angeles, CA. Funeral Services with Full Military Honors will be held at Ft. Myer Old Post Chapel with Interment to follow at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
