Obituary of John E. Logue

John Edward Logue, 87, died May 28, 2012, in Reston, VA. He was born February 1, 1925, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Hollis Lyon and Esther Bierhaus Logue. He graduated from DePauw University in 1947 with honors, receiving a BA in Economics, and attended law school at University of Michigan, where he received his JD degree in 1950. He began his career in the general practice of law in Fort Wayne in 1951, and in 1955 was sworn in as an Assistant United States Attorney. In 1957 he left the US Attorney's Office to join the Warsaw, Indiana, law firm of Graham, Rasor, Eschbach and Harris. He was named Warsaw City Attorney in 1961. In 1966 he left the firm, accepting the position of Trust Officer at First National Bank of Goshen, Indiana. In 1969 he joined the Chicago office of the Bureau of Public Debt, and, when the office moved to Parkersburg, West Virginia, he went as Acting Assistant Chief Counsel. In 1975 he was transferred to the Washington office to be Attorney in Charge. He continued in that position until promoted to Assistant Chief Counsel, retiring in 1994. He served 28 years in the Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard. In 1961, his unit was called to active duty as a result of tensions caused by construction of the Berlin Wall. He was deployed to Chambly Air Base in France, where he served as Staff Judge Advocate. His reserve assignments included Grissom and Rickenbacker Air Bases and Preventive Law and Legal Assistance at the Pentagon. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1978, receiving the Meritorious Service Award. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Shorter Logue of Reston, VA; son and daughter-in-law, John Richard and Loretta Logue of Moorpark, CA; daughter and son-in-law Susan and Kevin Koster of Woodbridge, VA; son and daughter-in-law David and Jennifer Logue of Quincy, MA; grandchildren Bryan, Samantha, and Katharine Logue, of Quincy, MA.
