I always referred to Ken Lebert as Mr. Lebert. As my sister said, it was really more like Uncle Lebert. I would like to think I always referred to him so formally out of respect, because, like all who knew him, he was a man that you could easily respect. Ken, was such a kind, warmhearted person, who was always laughing and always joking around. He was always making everyone laugh. I used to love listening to Ken and my Dad tell stories about growing up together. My imagination would soar trying to reenact the stories as they told them. Always sounded like so much fun...and they had many a good story.
But, one of my favorite stories about my time with Mr. Lebert, was when we all went to Kings Dominion. My sister and I used to spend our summers with our dad, and our Dad would often take us to cool places with Ken and his family. This story has to do with a little known movie(Just Kidding), that some of you may know, called "Ferris Buller's Day Off." As many may know, Ken was not an easy man to pull a joke on....and we were talking about the movie a good part of the way there. We stopped talking about it for a good while and then as we were getting close to the amusement park, I noticed a water tower, and quickly (and as seriously as I could) said, "Hey Mr. Lebert, look that water tower says, Save Ferris." To which he quickly turned around frantically looking for the Save Ferris painted on the water tower (which of course was not there), as we, unfortunately for him, had already gone by it. I played it off for 5 minutes or so until he wised up to it and he laughed at that for years (and so have I). He would always remind me of it almost every time I would see him. Gotcha Mr. Lebert. It was the only time I got him that good.
My Dad told me a long time ago when I was young that he named me after his best friend, Mr. Kenneth Lebert. Growing up with him making me and my sister laugh, and through knowing him for all these years, I can easily see why my Dad named me after him. There really wasn't another person on the planet that was as kind, gentle, astoundingly funny, and just a great caring man as Mr. Kenneth Lebert. I have a lot to live up to. I may not have understood why my Dad chose to name me after Ken when I was younger, but I have understood for many years now and am very proud to be named after such a special individual who has been a big part of so many lives.
To Johnathan and Rosemarie and the rest of the Lebert Family, I love you guys and send my deepest condolences with the passing of Mr. Kenneth Lebert.
With love and a saddened heart,
Kenneth Trollinger

Over the years, I've had many chats with Ken at the ends of our driveways. He was always quick to call out a greeting and a joke across the street, and seeing him being busy around his yard was a comfort to me: a sort-of visual assurance that all was well in our little neighborhood. He once told me about his experience working in a bakery, and I remember being so impressed at the obvious pride he had taken in treating customers like friends, and never hesitating to go the extra mile for someone. That epitomizes Ken, for me, really. With his gregarious nature and ready smile, he was always willing and happy to give of himself to make someone else's day. Ken, we are very sad you are no longer with us. You will be sorely missed.

One of my favorite memories of Mr. Lebert was when my brother Kenny, Jonathan, and I challenged Ken and my Dad to a game of basketball. We really thought we had the game in the bag, because it was 3 on 2 and we were teenagers/preteens and thought we could run circles around them. Of course they beat us...badly! But it was fun, and taught us a lesson in humility.
I'll also never forget when we went to the beach with the Leberts one summer, I was probably around 12 at the time, and was full of all sorts of pre-teen angst. I think Ken sensed I needed cheering up, and when we were walking on the boardwalk he told me he wanted to be my friend, and bought me a friendship bracelet. This extremely kind gesture definitely brightened my day and gave me a new perspective.
I'll always remember Mr. Lebert as a very funny and warm spirited person.
My heart and love goes out to the Lebert family.

Rosemarie, Jonathan, Kristina, Benjamin and Madeline, my prayers are with you as you face life without Kenny. May the memories of a lifetime sustain you during this difficult time. I had the pleasure of knowing Kenny when I worked at Pepco; many times we shared happy stories of parenthood and later the blessings of grand- parenting. Oh, how he loved his son and grandkids. His infectious smile and laughter will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone whose life was touched by him. RIP Kenny, thank you for sharing your life with us!

I am so sorry for your (and our) loss. I don\'t have to tell you (Kenny\'s family) what you already know--that Kenny was one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. Always made time to help when asked (and he had a WEALTH of knowledge). Always friendly and upbeat. One of those guys who is just a really "good person." You should be proud of him because he was a big asset to Pepco and a great friend and co-worker.
