Obituary of Kirk Eden Evans

CAPT Kirk E. Evans, USN (Ret) Kirk Eden Evans, age 67, of Vienna, VA died August 26th from complications related to leukemia. Son of Gillespie S. and Francesca S. Evans, he grew up around the world, including Australia, Egypt, England and Argentina. A graduate of Loudoun County High School, he was commissioned through NROTC at Miami University. He earned a Ph.D. in oceanography from the Naval Postgraduate School. A leader in developing technologies and systems for undersea surveillance during his 26-year U.S. Navy career, he later joined SAIC and the Department of Homeland Security. He enjoyed photography, travel, sailing the Chesapeake, reading to his grandchildren, and laughing in the company of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Linda, in 2010. He is survived by his sister Robin, son Brian, daughter Kirsten, two granddaughters, and extended family. The family will receive friends at ADAMS -GREEN FUNERAL HOME, 721 Elden Street , Herndon, Va on Thursday, August 30th from 4-8 PM. Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. at St. Thomas a Becket Catholic Church in Reston. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
