Obituary of Jay Ward Garvin

Jay Ward Garvin of Reston, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, October 9th, 2012 at home. He was born in Glen Dale, West Virginia on December 2nd 1940. Jay was a 1958 graduate of Moundsville High School and attended West Virginia University. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute Architectural School. He was an architect and partner at Taylor Garvin Associates, Inc. before retiring in 1999. Jay had lived in Reston, VA since 1971. Jay is survived by his wife Carlota de Sousa Lobo Garvin, his daughters Kara (Andrew Watson) & Alisa (Scott Thompson), grandchildren Ian & Ryan Watson & Reed Thompson, & his sisters Marjorie Chase & Trudy Kline. He is preceded in death by his parents Thomas Reed Garvin & Harriet Lineberger Garvin & his brother Thomas Reed Garvin II. Jay served as AIA president of the Northern Virginia Chapter, was a member of the Jaycees, and served on the Reston Design Review board. The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, October 13th, 2012 at 12pm at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden St., Herndon, VA. Services will be held shortly after at 1pm. Interment will follow at Chestnut Grove Cemetery, 831 Dranesville Rd., Herndon, VA.
