Obituary of George Watson Garrett

George Watson Garrett, aged 79, of Centreville, VA, died at Fair Oaks Hospital on Friday, November 16th, 2012, of natural causes. George was born August 20, 1933, in Pickens County, South Carolina, to the late James Fred and Stella Mae Garrett. He graduated from Liberty High School, and attended Furman University. George proudly served as a Cryptography Specialist Sp-3(t) in the United States Army during the Korean War, earning Good Conduct and National Defense Service Medals. On June 9th, 1963 he married Arlene Elizabeth Bell. George worked as a Field Engineer and Supervisor for Monroe Systems For Business. Upon retirement, he and Arlene found a way to turn their mutual lifelong interest in antiques and collectibles into a secondary career. George touched the lives of countless people with his genial manner, skillful story-telling, and delightful humor. He had a uniquely endearing quality which naturally drew people to him. George is survived by his wife, Arlene; his son Steven; his two daughters Rebecca and Lisa; his four grand children Ayden, Cole, Gabrielle, and Aiden; and his brother Vernon. He is further survived by nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and many friends. The family plans to inter George at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery accompanied by an honors detail.
