I never met anybody with 'Verna' for a name. And as I have learned there will never be anyone else like Verna Derrig! I am so glad God granted me a short time to get to know this special lady. She was faithful and loved her family and friends. Generous, a Big Heart and very sympathetic. She could also be very outspoken which I loved about her. Verna you will be missed by all who have had the honor of knowing you.

Whenever I went to the Verna's house(s), she would always make sure I was taken care of... at Bob Jr's expense. She would say, Bobby... get Mike a drink. And Red's would get it. That would never happen outside of Verna's house.
I always enjoyed my visits with Verna (and Bob Derrig Sr.). However, I always called them Mr. and Mrs. Derrig. Mrs. Derrig would always say to me "call me Verna", but I first knew them when I was 18 year old as Mr. & Mrs. Derrig, so I could never feel compfortable calling her Verna.
Verna (and Bob Sr.) were great people. I am so glad and priveleged I knew them both. They probably did not realize it, but I learned alot from the conversations and interactions I had with them.
I'm glad they are together again.
Mike, Linda, and Kerri.

To the awesome "Derrig Family": It was little over 5 months ago we all gathered to pay tribute to Nan Moffitt. I sat and spoke with Verna on quite a few occassions at that time. It was amazing to laugh and have fun with Verna and I will always remember the great times our family had while visiting the Moffitt's across the street. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this great time of celebration for your mom's life. We will be praying for her and for your family as well. God Bless you all. Terry Keith, Jr. and Mary Keith

I was so saddened to hear of Verna's passing on Sunday. From my first day in T-Birch, Nick, Nikki and I were welcomed by the Derrig family. Verna made us feel so at home as new neighbors. Patti, Donna, Bobby and Jeannie all babysat for my girls when they were little and we all felt like family. I loved your Mom and her great laugh and love of life. Her practicality combined with her love and warmth were her trademarks. Our love and hugs to all of you!

My heart is heavy with sadness with the news of Mrs. Derrig’s passing. The Derrig home was my home away from home. I spent so much time there many thought I was adopted. Donna, Jeanie and I helped with that rumor a bit. The Derrig’s gave me a second home and treated me like family! I spent many hours at the kitchen table under Verna’s counsel. She skillfully crafted discussions so as not to scare you from her confidence. Much to Red’s dismay nothing was out of bounds. She treated me as her own son. She cared! I can’t claim this as special only to me. She treated the whole neighborhood this way. I will fondly remember those days as some of the best in my life. I will never forget. Rest in peace Verna! I love you!
