Ed had the great idea to hire me back as an intermittent employee, recognizing that Susan Coleman and I had a lot of experience and knowledge, but didn't want to work full time. It has been a great arrangement that has served me well to this day. I remember that I was late completing one of the corporate applications once. They were on a 60-day deadline and I just didn't get it done in time. Ed asked me what happened since I had never been late before. I told him that I got busy with other things and just couldn't complete it in time. He thanked me for my honesty and that was all that was said. Thanks so much Ed for the opportunity you provided. And thanks for introducing us to Yossi who baby sat my daughter's bird on numerous occassions.

Ed was a colleague and a true friend. I first became acquainted with Ed when he came to FCA in 1983 --first and always a friend after joining our carpool to L’Enfant Plaza, then secondly as a colleague working together over many years. Always, warm, open, generous, and kind, Ed made a difference in the organizations and the lives of the people he touched. I will miss him but I realize how fortunate I am for having the opportunity to have known him and will keep and cherish the wonderful memories he left us all.

Ed hired me to FCA in May 1999, so I owe a debt of gratitude to this "Gentle Giant" for taking a chance on a mid-career economist, but also the many valuable lessons he taught me about the Farm Credit System, FCA and life. He was not only a gifted man for his intellect, but also as an athlete -- basketball at the University of Illinois and a "Colorado ski bum". His favorite time of year was March Madness when college hoops dominated the air waves, the internet and lunch room conversation. Ed was truly in his element. He was also a devoted husband to his dear wife Mary, his children and grandchildren of whom he was fond of bragging. We will miss you "Big Ed". Rest in peace. Walt

We were so sorry to hear of Ed’s passing. He was a great influence on both of us. I had the pleasure of working for Ed in the late 80’s to early 90’s. He was not just a boss, but a good friend and mentor. His support, encouragement, and selflessness enabled me to realize my full potential. My wife, Laurie, also enjoyed working closely with Ed at FCA up until his retirement. We were both deeply touched by his kindness. He will truly be missed by all of us.

Dear Mary, My sincere condolences. I have enjoyed my association with Ed over the years and enjoyed your hospitality as well. Ed had some unique qualities about him that I grew to respect and admire. He was smart, honest, hard-working, and loyal to his friends and co-workers. As a co-worker, he was always willing to go the extra mile. As a manager,he knew how to make corrections to someone's work in a very polite and humble way. It made working with him a very pleasant experience. As a friend, he was always affable and upbeat - and irreplaceable!!

Big Ed. He will always be in my heart. He encouraged me to buy a 2nd home to rent out--said it was real easy as he had rental properties and knew the ropes. It turned out not so simple for me but still very thankful for the push, Ed, as I made a ton of money! Will miss you, big guy.

Dear Ed, You are now in a better palce than we. I am sorry we weren't able to get together for lunch this week as planned. Another time in a better place I hope. I will always remember you as the one who took a chance on a mid-career economist and hired me at FCA in May of 1999. You were a terrific boss and a great mentor. I will also remember you for your pashion for sports, especially basketball, which you had a natural gift for and shared it with others at the University of Illinois.
