Obituary of Frederick Clarke Munchmeyer

Frederick Clarke Munchmeyer passed away on January 29, 2013. Fred was born on March 26, 1922, in Washington D.C. He graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1943. He later earned a MS degree from MIT and PhD from the University of Michigan. Fred served as a warship captain of the PC 590 for the Coast Guard in WWII, and an engineer and ship captain on the Coast Guard training ship Kukui post-WWII. After retiring from the Coast Guard he worked as a professor and department chair at the University of Hawaii and University of New Orleans in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. Fred is survived by four children; Leslie, Kurt and Kristen and Katherine. He also has 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He always said "I'm a lucky man" but we are the lucky ones.
