Obituary of David Allen Dedman

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
David Allen Dedman, 53, passed away on March 10, 2013, at home. Born January 9, 1960 in Evansville, IN, he was a graduate of Central High School. He graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1982 where he studied political science and economics. He then attended Whittier Law School but moved back to Indiana to be closer to family and the woman he would eventually marry. David earned his law degree from Indiana University in 1985. He began his law career in Indianapolis before moving to the Washington DC area in 1989. David and Joan met through mutual friends in the summer of 1982. They dated for seven years before marrying in 1989. Once David accepted a job offer with Hogan & Hartson, L.L.P. in Washington D.C., Joan moved their wedding date up several weeks. David joined Lockheed Martin Corporation in 2000 where he was a Vice President and Associate General Counsel at the time of his death. A member of Ashburn Presbyterian Church, David served as assistant treasurer, elder of children's ministries and elder of missions. David had a passion for travel, especially in the Caribbean. He loved planning the next family vacation. When one trip was ending he was asking where we wanted to go next. David was diagnosed with tongue cancer in June of 2011. He underwent surgery and radiation and an aggressive chemotherapy regimen. He eventually joined a clinical trial and we were very encouraged by his response to the treatment. Just three and a half weeks ago we learned that the treatment had stopped being effective. David remained positive, hopeful and faithful throughout. David is survived by his wife Joan, son Grant and daughter Wesley all of Ashburn, his father John Dedman of Evansville, IN, his brother Darren Dedman of Noblesville, IN, three nephews, Andrew, Zachary and Derek and a niece, Laura. His mother Faye Dedman preceded him in death. The family is requesting no flowers. In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions can be made to: Ashburn Presbyterian Church, 20962 Ashburn Road, Ashburn, VA 20147. Please include "David Dedman" in the memo line.
