Obituary of Ruth Jane Caden

Ruth Jane Scites Caden, born in Hamlin, West Virginia on March 3, 1938. Passed away peacefully on September 17, 2008. She was the firth child and fourth daughter of the late Eldon Walton Scites Senior and the late Elizabeth Myrtle Bosley Scites. She attended elementary school in Hamlin, West Virginia, junior high in Kirby, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Waynesburg High School in Pennsylvania in 1956. Jane was elected Phi Beta Kappa in 1960 and graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor's Degree in French. She received a Fulbright Scholarship in the summer of 1960, and went on to study in France. She subsequently earned a Master's Degree in French at Rutgers University, New Jersey; and a Masters in Fine Art at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Jane taught at Staten Island Academy in Staten Island, New York, and at Westminister Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey, in the 1960's. Jane was an avid reader and an artist, loved classical music and gardening, and was beloved by family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 4 decades, Kevin Caden; son Daniel Colm Caden; daughter Catherine Elizabeth Caden; all of Herndon, Virginia. She is survived by her brother, Eldon Walton Scites of Florrissant, Missouri; and by four sisters: Elizabeth Adelaide Scites Carter, of Burkittsville, Maryland; Mary Alice Scites Lindmark, of San Diego, California; Helen Scites Taylor, of Hamlin, West Virginia; and Penola Patricia Scites Lord, of Cherry Grove, Pennsylvania. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends, in the United States and abroad. Friends of the Caden family who have Ruth's artwork are invited to bring the art to the memorial service to display. There also will be a time of remembrance where family and friends will have a time to share fond memories of Ruth during the service.
