Our thoughts are with your family at this difficult time. We always enjoyed the visits that Mildred (and Greta) would take back to South Dakota. Even though we would lose our bed for a week or so it was always nice to see my dad Joe get to send time with his sisters. We just loved to listen to that "accent". I'm sure they would have liked to spend more time together .... but they made their time together count.

Although Mildred didn't get back to South Dakota a lot, we tried to make her feel at home. It seems like when she came to the farm there was always garden produce to can or chickens that needed to be cleaned. I can still see her standing there while we took off the heads so we could start taking off the feathers. She would make a face and say "oh gracious". We never did convince her to get on the plane even when she ended up in the hospital with pneumonia and we got oxygen tanks lined up so we could take her by car part way to Tennessee where her brother-in-law meet us and we did an exchange. I always wondered what she thought when Obama was elected president, but never did call her to have that conversation. We knew that politics was a "touchy" subject, but she really kept up with what was happening in the world. Anyway, we will miss her even though we are a long way from Virginia she was in out thoughts. I wish that dad could have made it out again before her passing, but at 87 he is pretty content to stay close to home. I think for him he hates the good-byes.
