What's your name? That was the first remark Sue offered to me in 10th grade, as she turned around from the desk in front of me. I was new to the school, although I grew up nearby in R.O. so earlier classmates/friend were there at Dondero H.S. Sue was much more hip.
Anyway, the was the start of a longtime, treasured friendship between Sue and I, and later Ray. I just found this notice, and I'm deeply disappointed, and saddened. I had hoped she'd enjoy a longer life.
Sue was an amazing 15-year old and continued to display her sharp intellect and insights representative of the '60's generation. It was usually a continuous laughing session to be with Sue. We sat for hours in her mom's basement (Lillian just loved her so much) and our conversations went from boys, music and clothing, to the obvious social injustices we felt. Tragedies were always decending upon our world, car accidents killing our friends on Woodward, and other deaths among our friends and families, and even the President, Kennedy. Yet, did we find a way to cope together.
Laughing about the ease with which the teachers and truant officer (Mr. Race) could easily be out-smarted, out manuevered, so we could tend to much more relevant activities. More laughs were provided on the subject of the R.O police who were basically bewildered by the large number of teenagers even though they all had 16 years of warnings. Seriously, Sue was an avid reader and shared thoughts that stimulated my mind and behavior many times to the good. I tried to be "there" for her and provide comfort she truly deserved.
Sue will never know the true contributions she made to friendship, strong exhibits of loyalty and endurance to others, and how much I appreciated our shared experiences. Even while I knew her life events took a toll on her, and it was certainly unfair, I at least continued to encourage her with hope because she certainly had some superior qualities. Today will be a tough day for me.

Brad, Sarah, and Ray, I was shocked and heartsick to learn of your Mom's passing. I am deeply sorry for your loss. I will always picture Sue working in her beautiful flower garden in the house in Fox Mill Estates. I will always remember her beautiful smile, her contagious enthusiasm, and her kindness to us and Scott. I know that her passing leaves a huge hole in your hearts. Please know that you're in my thoughts and prayers at this sad time. With deepest sympathy, Janis and Joe Nash
