Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James B. Davis passed away peacefully on November 12, 2013. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Seymour and Lillian (Tierney) Davis of Center Moriches, NY. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda Patterson Davis, his sons, William and Thomas (Lynn Miller) and one grandson, T.J. He is also survived by his three brothers, Seymour (MaryAnn), Richard (Rita) and Thomas (Dawn) as well as many other relatives and friends. After Jim graduated from Community College he went into the Army and was sent to Japan. After his return he moved to the Washington, DC area and started to work for Johnson Controls where he worked for 38 years. He was respected by his coworkers and one, Dave Patterson, liked him enough to introduce Jim to his sister, Linda. Jim and Linda married in 1959 and lived in Arlington. They moved to Vienna in 1964 and have lived there since. Jim was known throughout Vienna as Coach Davis. He coached his sons in both basketball and baseball. His love of the game and his kind nature made him a favorite among players and parents alike. He retired his clipboard in the mid seventies only to be re-enlisted to coach baseball two decades later by him son Tom. Together they coached TJ and it was then that Jim became known throughout Sterling as "Coach Poppy." He coached every spring and fall season for some 10-plus years. He was also a fixture at the Dominion High School baseball field. Always the first fan at a game and never an unkind word. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider a donation to Dominion High School - Titan Baseball Program, 21326 Augusta Drive Sterling, VA 20164. Please be sure to notate that this donation is being make in memory of Jim Davis. Poppy is now in heaven and as several people have said, " God just got a really good coach."
