Joseph Leroy Carreira March 25, 1943 - January14, 2011 Joseph Carreira passed away after a brief courageous fight with cancer at Reston Hospital in Reston Virginia on January 14, 2011. Joseph was 67 years of age. He was born on March 25, 1943 in Honolulu Hawaii to Joseph and Julia Carreira. He spent his life in Hawaii and graduated from St. Louis High School in 1961. He graduated from college with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Minor in Education and Business from Chaminade. In 1978 he married his wife Chong. They resided in Honolulu, Hawaii until they moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina in 1990. They moved to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 1991 to pursue his career with Vinnell-Arabia and then moved to Virginia in 2005. Joseph began his career in the military in 1965 with the Hawaii National Guard. In 1978 he attended Field Artillery Officer Advanced Career Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. From 1978 to 1983 he was Battalion S3 and Training Officer. 1983 he became the Battalion Executive and Administration Officer. In 1988 through 1990 he was the Organization and Maintenance Manager in charge of Logistic and training Ops for all units of the Hawaii Army National Guard. In 1990 he became the mobilization Planner/Operations Officer responsible for mobilizing and demobilizing the 8600 soldiers and 97 units who supported Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He received many certifications and accommodations for his years of dedicated service. In the last 17 years he was a liaison officer for Vinnell-Arabia. He is survived by his wife of 33 years Chong; his children: Julianne (Michael) Braunberger of Casper, Wyoming; Josette (Cory) of Gillette, Wyoming; Jennifer (Jack) of Casper, Wyoming; Franklin (Tisha) of Nimitz Hill, Guam; Jeanelle Lochmiller of Casper, Wyoming; Joseph (Nicole) of Orlando, Florida; Tanya Leon of Aiea, Hawaii; Celeste San Nicolas-Gross of Sparks, Nevada; his grandchildren: Dylan, Luke, Desmond, Jeane'e, Stone, Jack, Bradon, Reeve, Keano, Kee'Ana, Annalynne; and his great grandchild: Jacob. He is also survived by his beloved dog Titus. His interests included his grandchildren, "talk story" with family and friends with good food and drink. He loved to read, hunt, fish, camp, and travel. He enjoyed being a football coach and a softball umpire. He was dedicated to his job and his family. He had a strong character and was a good example for his family and coworkers. He will be missed by everyone whose lives he touched.
