Obituary—John J. Donohue (Age 50)
John Joseph Donohue of Oakton, Virginia, died on January 27, 2014. A beloved husband, father, son, and brother, John is survived by his wife Karen, daughter Eleanor, son Thomas, parents Patrick and Eileen, and siblings Patrick, Christopher, Joanne, Ellen, Marianne, Michael, and Elizabeth. He attended W.T. Woodson High School and the College of William and Mary, and earned graduate degrees from the University of Maryland at College Park and Bloomsburg University. John's lifelong love of Latin began at Woodson, and as a teacher he shared his knowledge and enthusiasm with students at Paul VI, Woodson, and Hampton Roads Academy. He was a longtime faculty member and twice director of the Governor's Latin Academy. He wrote and consulted for the National Latin Exam and under their auspices he created and starred in "Forum Romanum," a Latin news program used in classrooms nationwide. In his second career, corporate training and development, John worked for ECC International, Arthur Andersen, Sears, and finally MAXIMUS, Inc., of Reston, where through his leadership of the Center for Employee Development he had the privilege of influencing the professional growth of thousands of employees for 11 years. Besides reading Latin, John enjoyed playing guitar, drawing, watching baseball, and being with his family. He will be remembered by family, friends, and colleagues for his warmth, quick wit, quiet guidance, and wisdom. Requiescat in pace. A memorial mass will be held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Reston on Saturday, February 8 at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lustgarten Center for Pancreatic Cancer Research, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, St. John Neumann Catholic Church, or the Halquist Memorial Inpatient Center.
