My Papa…today we celebrate your life and the life you have bestowed upon all of us with your love, kindness, and ever cheerful outlook. My love for you is what a son feels for a father who was always there, even when you were away on a temporary duty assignment, or business trip - you were there. My heavy heart will miss you dearly, but I have a lifetime of the happiest memories that will always bring the smile back. From a little tyke getting my first wagon, riding my bike without training wheels, to cheering me on at my baseball and football games - you were there. Even when you booed us when we were winning by 10 runs and you wanted the game to end - you were there. When I went down the wrong road, you brought me back on course - because you were there. When I When graduated from High School and didn't know what to do next, you were there to shine the light. I joined the Army and you were not happy that I changed my decision at the last minute and went into the infantry instead of communications - you were there. When I graduated from college - finally - you were there. When I went surfing and chased hurricane waves - you were there. When I moved back to Northern Virginia, got married and started a family - you were there. When I built my first home in Richmond - you were there. As I climbed the ladder of success to provide for my family - you were there. When I went fishing and catch a boat load of bass - you were there. When I traveled back to Berlin a few years ago and had a beer on the Eastern side, I sent you pictures - because you were there. When I dealt with hard issues at work - you were there. My Papa, you were always there for me and I will miss you dearly. I cherish all that you have done to guide me throughout the years…many of which you probably didn't even realize. Today the tears will flow but there is always the smile because I know you are here.
