Obituary of Louis Tracey Bowen

On Thursday March 13, 2014 Louis Tracy Bowen "LT" 97 of Reston, Va. departed this life after a short illness. He was preceded in death by his wife Thelma C. Bowen in 1998.
Born in Reidsville, Ga. 1916 he was a United States Army Veteran having joined the Army in 1937. He was initially assigned to the horse-mounted Cavalry but as the Army modernized was later assigned to the Mechanized Cavalry.
He fought in WW II in the 3rd Army under the command of General George S. Patton. He landed on the shores of Normandy, France in the D-Day invasion (Operation Overlord - the Liberation of Europe) on June 6, 1944. He later participated in the "Battle of the Bulge" in the Ardennes Forest of Wallonia, Belgium.
In 2004 in Washington, DC he was awarded the Jubilee of Liberty Medal at the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Normandy by the French government for his participation in the D-Day invasion.
.He made his living as a painter and in his leisure time found great peace in the solitude of fishing and tending a garden.
An avid country music fan he greatly enjoyed the music of Chet Atkins and Jim Reeves.
He was a very strong believer in salvation through Jesus Christ constantly giving thanks for even the smallest of things. His trust in the Lord was absolute.
Louis is survived by seven children, seventeen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday March 20, 2014 at the ADAMS-GREEN FUNERAL HOME, 721 Elden St., Herndon, Va. 20170. Interment will be at the Fairfax Memorial Park , 9902 Braddock Rd. Fairfax, Va. He will be laid to rest beside Thelma with full military honors.
