Obituary of Eugenia Marie Braun
Please share a memory of Eugenia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Eugenia Marie Braun, born March 4, 1920, took her rest in the Lord's embrace, early Saturday morning, March 22, 2014, with family at her side.
Genie was born Eugenia Marie Zima in Columbus Nebraska, one of six children born to Frank and Albina Zima. Her family settled in Geneva, Ohio. She attended Mount Union College where she met James F Braun. Following Jim's graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy, they were married in Annapolis, Maryland in January 1945. They criss-crossed the country with the Navy as their family grew. Ultimately, the family settled in Annandale, Va., in the early 60's.
Genie taught elementary school at St. Michael's in Annandale for nearly 20 years. In retirement she continued to volunteer and teach ESL classes for several years. Proud of her Polish heritage, Genie was an avid traveler and visited Poland and Europe three times, all 50 United States and Central and South America. Genie became a Herndon resident in 2006. In her early 80's she started attending Water Aerobics and continued to be a part of the "Aqua Babes" until she was 90 years old.
She is survived by her children, James F. Braun, Jr. of Asheville, NC; Eugenia M. Esmon of Franklin, NC; Christopher P. Braun of Lewisburg, TN; and Anita H. Miller of Herndon, VA.
She also leaves behind seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
If anyone would like to make a donation in their name, Genie and Jim supported the USO (USO.org) and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. (stjude.org)
