Obituary of Salvatore Franco

Salvatore James Franco, Jr. (age 73) Salvatore passed from this life on Wednesday June 18, 2014, at his home in Potomac Falls, Virginia, succumbing to a very aggressive cancer. Salvatore was born at his parents' home on March 1, 1941, in Patchogue, NY on Long Island, where he lived until he enlisted in the Navy in 1959. Salvatore spent the next four years in England and Ireland as a Communications Operator for the Navy. After finishing his tour of duty in the Navy, he returned to Long Island and joined the Suffolk County Police Department. If you asked Salvatore, he would tell you that the most important event in his life occurred on April 19, 1968. Salvatore was a first responder to the scene of an emergency plane landing in the Long Island Sound. At the first responders' temporary headquarters in a local courthouse, he met the love of his life, Lynn. Love came swiftly and intensely for Lynn and Salvatore, and on August 30, 1969, they were wed. Lynn and Salvatore forged a beautiful, loving life together, and raised two boys: Keith and Craig. Salvatore spent a lifetime studying Karate, and for over 30 years, Salvatore taught hundreds of his devoted students. At the time of his passing, Salvatore held the rank of 8th Dan in Matsubayashi Shorin Ryu Karate - one of the most senior ranking members of his style in the United States. Salvatore served the Police Department with dignity and dedication for 36 years. After he retired, Salvatore and Lynn moved to Potomac Falls, Virginia to be closer to his son Craig, his daughter-in-law Annadelia and his grandchildren Evelyn and William Salvatore. Salvatore is survived by his loving wife Lynn, his sons Keith and Craig, his daughter-in-law Annadelia, his brother-in-law Roger, his mother-in-law Esther, his granddaughters Sara, Haley and Evelyn, and his grandson William Salvatore. A visitation will be held on Thursday June 26, 2014, from 11am - 12pm at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden Street, Herndon, VA 20170, where a memorial service will immediately following at 12pm. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made in his name to either Capital Caring Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
