Obituary of David Robert Zier

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
David Robert Zier of Potomac, Maryland, died unexpectedly on October 15, 2014 at the age of 44. Dave is survived by his fiancé, Jennifer Ann Caugh; his parents, Robert Eugene Zier and Martha Fowler Zier; his children; Kenna Elizabeth Zier and Cameron Fowler Zier; and their mother Tara Lowe Zier; his sister Heather Knowles Strauch, her husband Henry Joseph Strauch and their three children, Benjamin Roy, Anson Irving and Nathaniel Issac; and of course the family dog, Asia. Dave served as the CEO of Convergent Wealth Advisors, an Independent Financial Advisory Firm. He helped lead and inspire employees toward a compelling future while also providing investment advisory services for many of the firm's largest and most complex clients. As a member of the firm's Executive and Investment Committee, Dave led the company's efforts in developing in-house talent. His passion for wealth management was evident as he received many industry accolades year after year including #1 Financial Advisor in Maryland and consistently ranked in the top 10 of Barron's Top 100 Independent Financial Advisors. He regularly appeared as a guest on CNBC and Fox Business. Before joining Convergent, Dave co-founded JZA Development Corporation, specializing in franchising and developing small businesses. He served as a board member for the charitable organization, A Wider Circle. Dave earned two Bachelor of Science degrees from Virginia Tech and was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Dave was born in Newton, Massachusetts on April 2, 1970 to Robert and Martha Zier. As a devoted father to his children, some of his favorite moments were watching Kenna play soccer, Cameron skateboard and both of them excel in karate. He was so proud of his children and the people they were becoming. He aspired to be the most amazing father he could be and make his own parents proud of the man that he had become. Dave and his fiancé Jenn were planning a March, 2015 wedding in Islamorada, Florida. Dave loved the very special connection he shared with Jenn, and was looking forward to a lifetime of happiness together. Dave's closest friends knew him to be larger than life, with extremely broad shoulders and an infectious smile and laugh. Dave was committed to life-long learning and bettering himself and was especially focused on nutrition, health and fitness. He was the most amazing friend anyone could ask for, was extremely competitive, loved to wakeboard and enjoyed playing tennis and softball. He was also an incredibly accomplished corn-hole player. He had a ridiculous sense of humor, was light-hearted, never took himself too seriously and hated to wear a suit! His favorite place in the world was his home on Lake Anna where love and family abounded and life-long friendships were forged. Dave brought people together, loved with his entire body and heart and vowed to live every day to the absolute fullest. He inspired all who knew him to live life with that same passion and encouraged them to never settle for anything less. Dave will be deeply missed by his children, fiancé, family, friends and all who knew him. A private memorial service will be shared with family and close friends.
