Brian was great at sharing stories. We would talk after Charlotte's piano lessons about movies, concerts, and everyday life. He would be fixing dinner with Rose and it would smell so wonderful. I will miss those moments as I will cherish those we have shared.

Many years ago, Mitch and I picked our girls up from Montessori school like many days before. In their cubbies, we once again had an invitation to a birthday party. At this point in life, we were very hit or miss about going to birthday parties but when we saw the invitation was from someone that the girls had talked about incessantly, we knew this was one we couldn’t miss. The famous Brookie-do. A few weeks later, we pulled up to Joe’s Pizza in sterling, not knowing anyone but assured that the girls would have a wonderful time. Mitch and I settled into the background and ordered a beer to pass the time while the girls played. Brian immediately approached us with his big goofy grin and a pitcher of beer. “whatcha drinking?” and the rest is history. Brian and Rose opened their home and hearts to our family from that day forward and the memories we made in just a handful of years will remain in our hearts forever. Trips to Ocean Pines, MD were always invaluable. Our families matched up perfectly. Every time we heard him say “lady, cuz she’s a laddddyyyy, Brookie-DO or Charduskie” both Mitch and I would look at each other and have an easy laugh. It was always a guaranteed good time and something that we looked forward to. And then there was that trip where Brian and Mitch went to “finish the new floors” at the beach house. I have to say, for the immense sadness that we feel today and emptiness we will always feel in our hearts, it was worth all of the wonderful memories that we will hold close of Brian. Brian made our lives better and will forever be missed. Rose, Brookie, and Char, please know that we will always be here to continue to make memories together. We love you. It didn't take long for me to learn the depth of Brian's big heart and generous spirit. I work in the same building and crossed paths with him only a few times, but the first time I met him, it was late at night and my car wouldn't start outside the office. It seemed that no one else was around, but it wasn't long before he drove by and stopped to ask if I needed help. He gave my car a jump, and when we saw each other in the office on occasion after that, we exchanged warm smiles and short chats. I was so grateful not just for his help that night, but for his mindful manner of noticing that I needed assistance and going out of his way to make sure everything was okay. It sounds like my experience with him is only one of many in which he gently touched other people's lives. I am saddened by his passing and sincerely hope that his family will find comfort and solace now and in the days and weeks to come.

Brian, Karen and Nick worked in the same office and quickly became friends through shared hard work, exceptional service and professionalism under challenging expectations. When Karen volunteered to put together a team-building event for the Department, Nick and Brian quickly got on board to help. Even Karen's son, Zack, and I got caught up in the enthusiasm! As luck would have it, the afternoon of the event things started blowing up at work causing most of the staff to be unavailable. Despite heavy workload and demanding expectations, Brian and Nick both traded their personal time or paid time off to support both Karen's event and work commitments. I'm proud to have known him and call him friend.
