I remember Miss Jackie telling me the bible story of the mustard seed- Carolyn was celebrating a birthday, maybe her 10th, and had gotten a necklace with a mustard seed inside a glass pendent- i was also asked to go on a trip to Georgia with their family for a family gathering and remember thinking it was a really big deal and i had never been so far from home! The Ervin families and the Tomblin family spent years invloved in the Herndon Fire Dept. and the Ladies Aux. and my family and i last saw Miss Jackie and Carolyn at an honorary lunch and award ceremony held a few years back at the Herndon Fire Dept,. It was very well attended and many stories were shared by everyone. Our best to Carolyn and family and friends Linda

My family and I were lucky to have known this gracious lady. We met through the VFW and grew quite close over the years. She was the closest thing we had to family while we lived in Virginia. She could be a little demanding at times, and she was definitely set in her ways, but she was special to all of us,and I would not have wanted her to be any different than she was. I can remember her scolding me for not checking in with her while my family and I traveled. Even when we weren't traveling, Miss Jackie expected a call every few days. I can't tell you the number of times my phone rang and the first thing I would hear was "What you doing?" I am going to miss those calls; I am going to miss her. Rest in peace my loving friend. God willing, we shall meet again.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time of sadness and grief. Knowing Miss Jackie, I believe the words of 2 Timothy 4:7 are applicable; "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have kept the faith." Please accept our most profound condolences on your loss, and take solace in knowing that she is at peace.

Jackie and I worked together at the Nalc Health Benefit Plan for 10 years until her retirement. She was always on time and dressed very elegant especially her beautiful brooches. I only knew Jackie by the name, "ET" because that's what she wanted to be called. She talked a lot about her husband Ervin and her daughter Carolyn. After her retirement, Carolyn was hired by the Health Plan and soon became a Claims Analyst in the Double Coverage Department.. I will always remember, our office moved from Reston to Ashburn on Jackie:s birthday June 18th 1990. Today her daughter and I are co-workers in the same department that Jackie worked in. Carolyn always talked about her Mom. My husband's passed away on 1/9/2015 and his funeral was on Tuesday 1/13/ 2015. Carolyn called Tuesday morning to tell me Jackie had passed away.
Jackie may you rest in peace and don't keep Ervin up too late at night. I will always remember you. Bye ET.

My dad and Irvin worked together at the HERNDON Safeway,,Jackie and mom were friends for as long as I can remember,Carolyn and my sister are the same age and class and have been friends since the 1950''s. I remember our family's taking a trip to the Smokey Mountains, at that time was first time I had been out of Virginia. We had a great time. Our family's used to get together for dinner and fun. We all (Sue,Carolyn and myself) grew up attending the First Baptist Church and went to Sunday school,Summer Church camp , GA's and youth group . Jackie was a good friend to my Mom and even after my parents left HERNDON and Mom went to CBRC after dad passed she kept in close touch over the phone. I know Jackie and Mom are having a great time catching up on what has happened the last two months. I can only hope the two couples are reunited and enjoying being back together. Carolyn know Paul and I are close if you need us.

Jackie has been a friend of our family for many, many years. She was Mom's closest and oldest friend for what seemed like a million years. She and Mom would always talk just about every day and she would fill Mom in on the goings on up in the Herndon,Sterling and Middleburg areas. Then the discussion would turn to the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. They are loyal and dedicated members of the Sterling Leesburg VFW. She was a very kind, sweet, loving, funny and caring woman. I will always remember her warm smile. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her, especially the Bolen family. RIP Jackie. Say hello to Dad for me.
